Prime Minister Narendra Modi compared the then Reserve Bank of India governor Urjit Patel as a ‘snake who sits over a hoard of money’, former finance secretary Subhash Chandra Garg has claimed in his book ‘We Also Make Policy’.

In his book, the excerpts of which were carried out by a news website , Garg said that the Narendra Modi government's ‘frustration’ with the then central bank chief had grown as early as February 2018 and escalated a month later when he accused the government of its inability to shed regulatory authority over nationalised banks, which according to him left the RBI with inadequate regulatory authority over the public sector banks compared to private-sector banks.

The Janata Dal (Secular) of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on Friday announced alliance with the BJP in Karnataka and formally joined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. JD(S) leader and former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy made the announcement after meeting Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP chief J P Nadda in the national capital.

Nadda welcomed the JD(S) into the NDA fold. " I am happy that JD(S) has decided to be the part of National Democratic Alliance. We wholeheartedly welcome them in the NDA. This will further strengthen NDA and vision of Hon PM@narendramodiJi for “New India, Strong India”, " the BJP chief posted on X.

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla over the issue of derogatory statement made by BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri against BSP MP Danish Ali. In his letter, Chowdhury urged Om Birla to take stringent action as per the rules against Ramesh Bidhuri for using "brazenly abusive and unparliamentary words against a member of a leading political party, Danish Ali, who also happens to be from the minority community".

India has reached out to its close partners — the US, the UK and Australia — over the diplomatic row with Canada, and has made it clear to them that it is willing to cooperate, provided Ottawa furnishes evidence to back its claims, a news website has learnt.

Government sources told a news website that it was also conveyed in the strongest terms that Canada has never cooperated with India when it comes to New Delhi’s apprehensions about those with criminal cases in India finding safe haven in Canada.
