West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday launched an all-out attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party warning that central agencies would target the BJP after the 2024 general elections. She also claimed the BJP-led government at the Centre would last only three more months.

The ongoing rescue operation to save 41 workers trapped inside Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand for over 11 days has reached its final stage.

However, the government officials said it would not be fair to speculate on the timeline for rescue operations as "it is just like a war situation where one keeps guessing about enemy moves". The official further mentioned that in this operation 'Himalayan geology' is the enemy.

On Wednesday, the multi-agency rescue operation, which had been focusing on the strategy of horizontal drilling since the past two days, succeeded in breaching a significant portion of the debris that was blocking the way inside.

#Israel-Hamas war: Al Shifa Hospital Chief Held For Questioning, Israeli Military Confirms

Israel on Thursday confirmed that the director of Al Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip had been held for questioning, Reuters reported, citing the country's military.

The Israeli Army said that the director, Mohammad Abu Salmiya, has been held over evidence that the facility had been used as a command and control centre for Palestinian militant outfit Hamas.

"In the hospital, under his management, there was extensive Hamas terrorist activity," the military said in a statement.

In Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi, the rescuers are just hours away from the 41 trapped workers. According to officials, so far, 45 meters of drilling and laying of pipers have been completed and the trapped workers are likely at a distance of just 12 meters. Amid this good news, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami left for the Silkyara tunnel site. At night, the Chief Minister will take stock of the ongoing relief and rescue work in the Silkyara Tunnel located on the Uttarkashi-Yamnotri road. The rescuers are likely to get a breakthrough tonight or early morning tomorrow.
