#InflationGauge: Rejigged WPI With Wider Product Basket Soon

The department for the promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT) will soon launch a new wholesale price index (WPI), with 2017-18 base year and a revamped product basket, to better capture the structural churns in the economy, DPIIT secretary Anurag Jain told FE.

“The new index will have many more products, which will be reflective of the changes in the economy. The new base year will help improve the quality and representative character of the index. Since there will be more items, the weight assigned to each of them, in most cases, will drop. Prices will be collected from a larger number of establishments as well,” Jain said in an interview.

#DelhiModel: AAP MLA Atishi Takes Kejriwal Model of Governance To UN

Delhi is an example for all cities to grow while ensuring equity, ecological sustainability and fiscal prudence, said AAP MLA Atishi while addressing the UN General; Assembly today.

Atishi said, “All of us present here come from different cities and countries, but face common challenges, such as how to provide our citizens high quality public services while ensuring equity, ecological sustainability and fiscal prudence.”

She added, “From the early 90s, there has been a growing belief that the provision of education, health care, water, electricity to all citizens is far too expensive, and that governments which provide these services to all citizens end up spending too much and going into debt. So governments, especially in the developing world, have started withdrawing from the services.”

#Indo-Pak: 'India Keen on Better Relations, Provided Pak Stops Support To Terrorism And Drawing Attention To J&K', Says Army Chief Naravane

More than a year after India and Pakistan agreed on a ceasefire along the Line of Control, Indian Army chief General M M Naravane has said that “ceasefire violations along the border are in no one’s interest” and India is “more than keen to have good relations with Pakistan”, but “they (Pakistan) have to first rein in their support to terrorism and attempts to draw international attention to J&K”.

This is the strongest endorsement of the ceasefire between the two countries and a positive articulation from the Indian Army chief, weeks after Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said the situation on the LoC has been “fairly peaceful” the past year and Pakistan stands ready to address the Kashmir issue with India through diplomacy and dialogue.
