Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who is due to offer his resignation on Wednesday, has landed in the Maldivian capital of Male, sources here said this morning. Quoting Maldivian sources, they said he was received by a Maldivian government representation at the Velana airport last night.

The president would most likely proceed to another Asian country from there, the source said. The immigration official said authorities could not under law prevent a sitting president from leaving the country.

Rajapaksa was due to step down as president on Wednesday to make way for a unity government, after thousands of protesters stormed his and the prime minister’s official residences on Saturday demanding their ouster.

Before the start of Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Centre and Opposition were in a huddle to discuss the Agnipath scheme on Monday. However, the Opposition camp - which plans to seek a detailed discussion on Agnipath scheme in the upcoming session - clearly kept its demand on this issue before the central government.

According to sources, in the one-and-a-half-hour long meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Opposition MPs demanded that Agnipath scheme be either withdrawn or sent to parliamentary panel for further detailed scrutiny.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched 75 defence products powered by artificial intelligence at the first-ever 'AI in Defence' symposium and exhibition organised by the Ministry of Defence in New Delhi.

These products were launched as part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations. Out of these 75 products, some are already being used by the armed forces while the rest are in the process of deployment.

These 75 products are in the domains of robotics systems, cyber security, human behaviour analysis, intelligent monitoring system, supply chain management, voice analysis and C4ISR (command, control, communication, computer and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) and operational data analytics.

Trinamool Congress MLA Idris Ali on Sunday (July 10, 2022) said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have to face the same fate as Sri Lanka's President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who was forced to flee his after anti-government protesters demanding his resignation stormed into his official residence in the capital Colombo. The TMC leader said that looking at the things in India, PM Modi is a total failure. It will be even worse here and PM Modi will also resign and flee, he said.
