During the inauguration and foundation laying ceremony, the Chief Minister said, "100 days of the government have been completed. During this, the government has implemented many promises. Earlier, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, investment projects worth more than 80 thousand crore rupees were launched in the state. With their help, 5 lakh people will get direct employment and 20 lakh people will get indirect employment. Uttar Pradesh is the fastest growing economy of the country."

Terrorism in Kashmir will not end until the government wins the hearts of the people in the Valley and seeks a solution by talking to Pakistan, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah said on Wednesday. Condemning the killing of a police officer by terrorists on Tuesday, he said people will keep on dying till a solution to the Kashmir issue is found.

"The caravan of terrorism will not end. Their (BJP) ministers and other leaders issue statements that it has ended, but I want to tell them that this will not end till you do not try to win the hearts of the people of Kashmir and seek its solution after talking to our neighbouring country," Abdullah told reporters at party headquarters 'Nawa-i-Subah' here.

Hours after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled Sri Lanka in the dead of night, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe moved to quell surging anti-government protests that have thrown the country into turmoil by appointing a new committee, comprising the Chief of Defence Staff, Tri-forces Commanders and Inspector General of Police, to control the situation.

Made Acting President by Gotabaya in his "absence", Wickremesinghe said the committee has also been instructed to ensure the security and safety of citizens during the protests.

He claimed there was “no truth” to reports about pressure from his MPs and said he took the decision because Murmu was a tribal woman and Sena’s members from the tribal community had “requested” him to back her. Interestingly, Uddhav’s move comes amid speculation that a section of these MPs could split and join CM Eknath Shinde’s faction.

However, his decision appeared to open up a rift in MVA as NCP chief Sharad Pawar was among those who took the lead in putting up Yashwant Sinha as opposition candidate and Sena’s Subhas Desai had, at an opposition meeting, extended support to the former BJP minister.
