#BJP: Party Takes Swipe on Expensive T-Shirt of Rahul Gandhi, Congress Attacks Saying, 'What About PM Modi's Rs 10 Lakh Suit'

With the BJP sharing a photo of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wearing a designer T-shirt that reportedly cost Rs 41,000, the Congress hit back while reminding the saffron party about "PM Narendra Modi's Rs 10 lakh suit." The face-off between the two parties began after the BJP claimed on social media that Rahul Gandhi, who has been raising the issue of inflation during the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', was wearing a T-shirt worth Rs 41,257 on Friday.

In a tweet captioned "Bharat, dekho!", the BJP also shared with a photo of Rahul Gandhi wearing an expensive designer T-shirt.

Congress retorted by saying "the ruling party at the Centre has been scared of the response of the people to the Bharat Jodo Yatra." Taking to Twitter, Congress said, "Hey... are you scared? Seeing the crowd gathered in Bharat Jodo Yatra. Talk about the issue. Speak on unemployment and inflation. If we have to discuss the clothes, then Modi Ji's suit of 10 lakhs and glasses of 1.5 lakhs should be discussed. Do BJP want to discuss this?"

#UnitedOpposition: Mamata Banerjee Announces 'Opposition Will Unite To Defeat BJP in 2024 Polls'

Amid Bihar Chief Minister's marathon efforts to unite the Opposition parties before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday made a big announcement saying that all non-BJP parties will unite to defeat BJP in the next general elections.

The TMC supremo said that she and her counterparts in neighbouring Bihar and Jharkhand will join hands with several other opposition parties to oust the BJP from power in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Banerjee made these remarks while addressing a party programme during which she also said that the BJP would face a rout because of its arrogance and people's anger.

"I, Nitish Kumar, Hemant Soren and many others will come together in 2024. All opposition parties will join hands to defeat the BJP. All of us will be on one side and the BJP on the other. The BJP's arrogance of 300 seats will be its nemesis. There will be 'Khela Hobe' in 2024," she said.

#TMC-MP: TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee taunts Home Minister, 'Amit Shah is India's Biggest Pappu'

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, who is being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged involvement in the cattle smuggling scam, on Thursday made a scathing attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, calling him "India's biggest Pappu." Holding Amit Shah responsible for unleashing the central agencies against Trinamool Congress leaders in West Bengal, Abhishek Banerjee said that he is the "worst element" in the current Union cabinet.

"He the biggest Pappu of the country. On one hand, he is trying to teach us the lesson of patriotism and on the other hand, his son Jai Shah is refusing to receive the Tricolour," he said. The TMC MP said that the JP only knows how to change the names of places.

"Had they come to power in West Bengal, the name of `Midnapore` would have been changed to `Modinipur`, and `Darjeeling` would have changed to `Modijiling`. But the people of West Bengal gave a fitting reply to BJP in the 2021 Assembly elections. I am sure that BJP will get a similar fitting reply in the panchayat election next year and finally in the Lok Sabha polls in 2024," Abhishek Banerjee said.

#CAA: Supreme Court To Hear Pleas Against Citizenship Amendment Act on September 12

After a gap of over a year, the Supreme Court will on September 12 take up a clutch of petitions challenging the validity of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019, which aims at granting fast-track citizenship to non-Muslim refugees who came to India because of religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan on or before December 31, 2014.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Uday Umesh Lalit and S Ravindra Bhat will hear the batch of over a hundred connected petitions, questioning the validity of the law on grounds of religious discrimination and arbitrariness. The  petitions came up for a hearing before the top court in June 2021.

The court had in January 2020 issued a notice to the Union government on the petitions but declined to stay the law. It had also restrained all high courts from hearing the pleas on CAA till it decides the matter.

#CentralVista: Iconic Central Vista Stretch With Monumental Changes All Set To Be Unveiled

The iconic Central Vista stretch has seen monumental changes since it came into being over nine decades ago, after the birth of New Delhi as India’s capital city.

The avenue continued to be the centre of political and administrative power after Independence, even as it was renamed Rajpath, from Kingsway. The lawns and fountains along the stretch also became one of the most popular public spaces in the Capital.

On December 12, 1911, at the Delhi Durbar, King George V announced the shifting of British India’s capital from Calcutta to Delhi.

On December 15, George V and Queen Mary laid the foundation stone for the new capital at the Durbar Grounds (Coronation Park), following which a comprehensive study of various potential sites for the Capital was undertaken, according to the book New Delhi: Making of a Capital.
