#`Tripura: Exit of 5 MLAs Jolt For Tripura BJP Ahead Of Assembly Polls: CPI(M)’s Manik Sarkar

CPI(M) politburo member Manik Sarkar has claimed that the BJP has failed to keep leaders in the parties that had toppled the Left Front government in the state in 2018 as five MLAs of the ruling coalition have quit to join other outfits. The situation has now changed in the northeastern state and three BJP lawmakers have quit and joined different parties, while two Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) MLAs have joined Tipra Motha, Sarkar said at a state-level programme of the SFI here.

BJP MLAs Sudip Roybarman and Ashis Saha joined the Congress, while Burbu Mohan Tripura of the saffron party, and IPFT’s Dhananjoy Tripura and Brishaketu Debbarma are now with the Tipra Motha. The leader of the opposition in the Tripura Assembly said the defectors of the NDA are publicly saying that they were disheartened and deeply unhappy with the style of functioning by the saffron party. “This is a big jolt for the ruling party ahead of the election”, the former chief minister said on Tuesday.

#IndoPak: ‘Black Spot’ on Fight Against Terror Irks India; J&K Guv Says 'World is Watching'

In what can be termed as “travesty of the fight against terror”, Pakistan is free of the control of the world anti-money-laundering body, even the proposal for which, last week, had led to anger in New Delhi. The country sought removal from the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) Grey List, claiming it has “complied with 11 conditions”, including prevention of money laundering and terrorism financing, according to a top diplomatic source. Pakistan has been on the list since June 2018.

Commenting on Pakistan’s move to get out of the FATF list, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in an exclusive interview with News18, said, “Our neighbour is not happy with peace in India…The world is watching which country is aiding terrorism…Our ministry of external affairs (MEA) is vigilant and takes appropriate action.”

#Rajasthan: BJP calls on Raj Speaker to accept resignations of 91 Congress MLAs

Opposition BJP MLAs led by Leader of Opposition G C Kataria, on Monday, called on Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr C P Joshi with a letter calling on him to accept the resignation of 91 Congress MLAs en masse for boycotting a CLP meeting in protesting against the Congress high command’s one line resolution on September 25.

Recalling that the 91 Congress MLAs had held a meeting at the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal’s residence and decided to resign in their individual capacity, the letter written by LoO Kataria to the Speaker said he should take a decision on their legitimate membership of legislator (s) in the House and accept their resignations en masse.

#Judiciary: Centre pitches Uniform Civil Code to Supreme Court, Different laws an affront to nation’s unity

Underlining that the Constitution obligates the State to have a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) for its citizens, and that people belonging to different religions and denominations following different property and matrimonial laws is an “affront to the nation's unity”, the Centre has told the Supreme Court that the matter will now be placed before the 22nd Law Commission.

The Centre said this in its response to petitions filed in the apex court seeking uniformity in laws governing matters of divorce, succession and inheritance and adoption and guardianship for all, irrespective of gender and religion.

The government said that “Part IV of the Constitution of India is related to Directive Principles of State Policy and creates an obligation upon the State to endeavour to secure for citizens a Uniform Civil Code throughout the country under its Article 44”.
