Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the central government has given a nod to projects worth Rs two lakh crore for Maharashtra.

His statement comes in the wake of the Eknath Shinde-Devendra Fadnavis government coming under the Opposition`s fire after some proposed big-ticket projects moved out of Maharashtra to poll-bound Gujarat and some other states.

In a video message aired during the Maharashtra government`s function held here for distribution of appointment letters as part of recruitment of 75,000 people, Modi said the state government`s initiative was fulfilling the objective of employment generation.

A Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader in the Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal has landed in trouble for allegedly putting pressure on a young woman to develop sexual relations with him.

The victim had reportedly requested Shishir Mandal – chairman of the Dainhat Municipality in Purba Bardhaman – to arrange a job for her when the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader allegedly put forward the proposal.

Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan Thursday survived an assassination attempt in the middle of his long march to the capital, taking two bullets in his right leg as a lone gunman in the crowd fired at him and party colleagues waving at supporters from atop a container truck winding its way through the eastern city of Wazirabad.

A person identified as Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf supporter Muazzam Nawaz was killed and six others, including senior party functionaries Ahmed Chattha and Chaudhry Yousuf, were injured in the shooting at Allah Wala Chowk. The assailant, who was promptly overpowered and whisked away, said in a purported confessional video recorded in custody that he was on a mission to assassinate Imran as the latter had been "misguiding the people".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday laid out his vision of Delhi as an ideal city where the poor, who build the city, get due space in planning and access to the best facilities. While handing over the keys of newly constructed flats to slum dwellers in Kalkaji in South Delhi, he said there is need to bridge the gap between “posh colonies” and the ones inhabited by the poor and lacking in basic civic amenities.

Flagging how the cities have been deprived of balanced and holistic development in the past decades, the PM said, “The development that you see in big cities like Delhi and where big dreams are realised, the foundation of such developments and dreams is made up of the hard work and sweat of the poor. But, unfortunately, these poor have been made to live in deplorable conditions. When there is such an imbalance in one single city, who can think of holistic development?”

The Defence Research and Development Organisation on Wednesday conducted a successful maiden flight-test of Phase-II ballistic missile defence interceptor AD-1 missile from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha, the Ministry of Defence said.

In a statement, MoD stated that the flight-test was carried out with participation of all BMD weapon system elements located at different geographical locations.

A long-range interceptor missile, the AD-1 is designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles as well as aircraft. It is propelled by a two-stage solid motor and equipped with indigenously developed advanced control system, navigation and guidance algorithm to precisely guide the vehicle to the target.
