#EWS: How P Chidambaram Forced Jairam Ramesh To Change Congress Stand on EWS Quota

When the Supreme Court, on November 7, upheld the constitutional validity of the Narendra Modi government's decision to implement 10 per cent reservation in government jobs and higher educational institutions for the economically weaker sections (EWS) in the general category, the Congress initially welcomed the court's ruling.

The party even claimed credit for implementation of the reservation meant for the poor among general category people. The 10 per cent quota, based on economic status, excludes the Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), who already have 49.5 per cent seats reserved for them in government jobs and higher education.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar on Sunday said 99 per cent of Muslims in India are "Hindustani" by their ancestry, culture, traditions and motherland. He also supported the view expressed by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in the past that Indians had common ancestors, hence their DNA is common. Kumar was addressing the concluding ceremony of the two-day state-level workshop of activists of the Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM), the Muslim wing of the RSS, at Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini at Uttan in Thane district.

#Absentism: MPs Across Political Parties Skip Parliament's Standing Committee Meetings: Lok Sabha Website Data

MPs from various parties have skipped the Parliamentary Standing Committee meetings after they were reconstituted in September to deliberate on the Bills for introduction in Parliament during 2022-23, according to the data on the Lok Sabha website.

After the reorganisation of 13 Standing Committees of the Lower House, 22 meetings were held from October to November 2022 for selecting the subjects to be considered during the year 2022-23 in which only 16 members were present on an average, the data showed.

Amid the public outrage over the acquittal of three accused in the Chhawala rape and murder case, former Chief Justice of India UU Lalit on Sunday said unless and until that guilt is completely established, circumstantial evidence case theory is not to be accepted.

Speaking to ANI, Justice Lalit said, "The element was purely based on circumstantial evidence. Law is clear that facts must point only in direction of the guilt of that man, unless and until that guilt is completely established, circumstantial evidence case theory is not to be accepted."

The Congress took a dig on Friday at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to four southern states, saying the impact of the opposition party's Bharat Jodo Yatra is already being felt, but no antics can match the connection established with people by walking with and listening to them. Modi is on a two-day visit to the southern states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from Friday, during which he would attend several events and launch development initiatives.
