#Judiciary: SC Collegium Recommends Transfer of Seven High Court Judges; Justice Nikhil S Kariel Not On List

The Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud Thursday recommended the transfer of seven judges of High Courts.

From the Andhra Pradesh High Court, Justices Battu Devanand and D Ramesh have been recommended for a transfer to the Madras and Allahabad High Courts, respectively.

Justice Lalitha Kanneganti, currently judge of the Telangana High Court, has been recommended for a transfer to the Karnataka High Court. Justice Kanneganti was transferred from her parent high court Andhra Pradesh to Telangana High Court only in November last year, after being appointed in May 2020.

#ECI: "If Election Commissioner Is Asked To Take On PM...": Supreme Court To Centre

On the independence of India's top poll body, the Supreme Court today had a pointed "hypothesis" for the central government: “Do you think the Election Commissioner... if he's asked to take on none less than the Prime Minister — it's just an example — and he doesn't come around to doing it: Will it not be a case of complete breakdown of the system?"

It said the Election Commission is "supposed to be completely insulated", and referred to how the government had spoken of appointing a "man of character". "Character consists of various components... one particular characteristic required is independence," it noted.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered his most detailed explanation yet on Wednesday about what kind of "interference" he brought up with Chinese President Xi Jinping in a meeting earlier this month. At the recent G20 summit in Indonesia, the Prime Minister's Office told reporters that Trudeau raised serious concerns with Xi about Chinese "interference" in Canada, but offered no specifics. 

In a rare unplanned exchange caught by cameras, Xi later confronted Trudeau about the fact that details had been shared with the media. "Everything we discuss has been leaked to the paper; that's not appropriate," Xi said through an interpreter.

The former top cop reacted sharply to the visuals of jailed AAP minister Satyendar Jain indulging in foot massages and eating home-cooked food inside Delhi’s Tihar Jail and squarely blamed the Tihar administration for the lapses. She also suggested that the Delhi L-G recommend Jain’s suspension or dismissal to the President.
