Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut on Friday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for maintaining "silence" over alleged objectionable remarks made against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by some public figures and warned these "insults" to the Maratha warrior king will be avenged.

Raut said while the BJP is sensitive to comments perceived as insulting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party remains quiet when it comes to remarks made against the 17th century Maratha warrior king, a revered figure in Maharashtra.

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal has thanked the people of Gujarat for coming out in large numbers to cast their vote in the first phase of polling for the Gujarat Assembly Election 2022 that was held on Thursday. The AAP chief took to Twitter to thank people and also assured them of "change" in Gujarat soon. "People of Gujarat, you did wonders today..... change," Kejriwal said in his tweet.

The AAP chief's tweet came shortly after a voter turnout of 60.23 per cent was recorded in the first phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections covering 89 seats across 19 districts of Saurashtra-Kutch and southern regions of the state on Thursday with the polling ending on by and large peaceful note, officials said.

Shraddha Walkar murder accused Aaftab Amin Poonawala underwent a narco analysis test for almost two hours at a Rohini hospital in Delhi today as part of the ongoing investigation in the case, officials said. 

Officials said Poonawala's narco test was completely successful and his health condition was absolutely fine. They said Poonawala reached Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini at 8:40 am and the narco test started around 10 am. After the test, he was kept under observation.

The development potentially sets the stage for a fresh clash between the former chief minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar. Both politically influential leaders have often been at loggerheads over their claim to chief ministership.

The cake-cutting ceremony by Siddaramaiah’s supporters comes a day after Shivanandapuri Swami of Kanakapeeta and several former ministers backed the Congress leader as the next chief minister of Karnataka. At the event on Wednesday, Siddaramaiah was repeatedly referred to as the “next CM”.

India has achieved defence exports over Rs 7,000 crore till November 1 so far, and is looking at reaching a target upwards of Rs 15,000 crore by the end of this fiscal, showed official data accessed by a news channel.

According to the data, India exported defence items worth Rs 7,034.84 crore till November 1 this year. Sources said some major defence deals were expected to be concluded towards the end of this year and early 2023, taking export figures higher.
