Diplomatic advisor to French President, Emmanuel Bonne, is scheduled to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday following his dialogue with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. During these strategic talks, India looks to make France a key partner in its ‘Make in India’ approach to defence manufacturing. This dialogue assumes importance as India seeks to beef up its air force and naval capabilities in view of rising Chinese aggression.

Ahead of the high-level exchanges between India and France in March this year, the 36th round of India-France Strategic Dialogue will take place today. Diplomatic advisor Bonne will meet Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Walmart Gets $1 Billion Tax Bill For Shifting PhonePe To India: Report

Walmart Inc. and other PhonePe shareholders will have to pay nearly $1 billion in tax after the digital payments company shifted its headquarters to India, according to people familiar with the matter.

The bill stems from the relocation and rise in the value of PhonePe Pvt, which Walmart took majority ownership of after acquiring parent outfit Flipkart Online Services Pvt.

Now separated from Flipkart and re-domiciled from Singapore to India, the fintech firm is raising funds at a $12 billion pre-money valuation from General Atlantic, Qatar Investment Authority, and others, triggering the hefty charge, the people said, declining to be named discussing a private matter.

Google alleges India antitrust body copied parts of EU order on Android abuse

Google has told a tribunal in India that the country's antitrust investigators copied parts of a European ruling against the U.S. firm for abusing the market dominance of its Android operating system, arguing the decision be quashed, legal papers show.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) in October fined Alphabet Inc’s Google GOOGL.O $161 million for exploiting its dominant position in markets such as online search and the Android app store, and asked it to change restrictions imposed on smartphone makers related to pre-installing apps.

Nifty, Sensex Open 2023 in Green: SGX Nifty, Dow, Nasdaq Futures

Indian equity benchmark indices Nifty50 and Sensex opened in the new calendar year 2023 in green, up nearly 0.2% higher each at 9:15 am on Monday.

The Nifty 50 Futures listed on the Singapore-based Exchange SGX, an early indicator for Nifty 50, traded 0.14% or 26 points lower at 9:05 am on Monday, indicating a muted-to-negative bias on Dalal Street.

Further, the Dow Jones Futures slipped 0.18% and Nasdaq 100 Futures traded flat. 

Major indices on Wall Street ended lower on Friday, closing 2022 with sharp losses, aided by the Russia-Ukraine crisis, interest rate hike to tame the soaring inflation, recession pressures and resurgence of Covid cases in China.

Maruti Suzuki India posts 9% decline in wholesales at 1,39,347 units in December

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Sunday reported a 9 per cent decline in total wholesales at 1,39,347 units in December 2022 compared to the year-ago month.

The company had clocked a total sales of 1,53,149 units in the same month in 2021, Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) said in a statement.

Total domestic wholesales were at 1,13,535 units last month as against 1,26,031 units in December 2021, down 9.91 per cent, it added.
