Dip in average daily vaccination 61.1 lakh doses to 37.2 lakh doses from last week of June

in DNDQuick

There is a dip in average daily vaccination against Covid-19 which fell to 37.2 lakh doses in the week of July 05-10 from over 61.1 lakh doses in the week starting June 21 and nearly 42 lakh doses in the following week (June 28-July 04), CoWin data shows.

While the decline in vaccination has raised concerns, the government is expecting to maintain a daily average of 40-45 lakh doses in July with an estimated supply of at least 12 crore doses this month, an official source said. According to the source, the slowdown in vaccination is primarily because of some disruptions at Bharat Biotech’s Bengaluru plant which resulted in delay in supply of some batches of Covaxin that were expected in the beginning of this month.

Delhi HC bats for Uniform Civil Code, Court says it's time for a common law

in DNDQuick

The Delhi High Court on Friday backed the formation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in India and asked the Centre to take the necessary steps in this matter.

Stressing on the need for a civil code 'common to all' in view of changing paradigms, the court noted that the modern Indian society is gradually becoming "homogeneous", dissipating "traditional barriers" of religion, community and caste.

According to a report in a Business Daily, Justice Prathiba M Singh, who passed the judgment observed that courts have been repeatedly confronted with the conflicts that arise in personal laws. "People belonging to various communities, castes, and religions, who forge marital bonds, struggle with such conflicts," she observed.

Delhi Government rolls out graded plan for Covid-19 curbs

in DNDQuick

Private offices, malls, weekly markets and the Metro will be shut down in Delhi if the test positivity rate (TPR) rises above 2%, and the city will be put under a curfew if the number breaches 5%, according to a new Covid-19 action plan approved by authorities that sets clear thresholds for curbs that kick in from as low as 0.5% TPR in order to scuttle an outbreak.

The graded response action plan, which harks back to a similar mechanism to fight air pollution during pre-winter months, was drafted by an expert committee formed by the Delhi government and approved by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

It classifies outbreak severity into four bands – yellow, amber, orange and red – with each representing a more severe outbreak and, thus, stricter curbs than the one preceding it.
