In graft cases, court relief but worries not gone for B S Yediyurappa

in DNDQuick

Despite a special court for cases of elected representatives last week rejecting a plea to probe allegations of corruption against Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, among eight others, the veteran leader may not be completely out of the woods so far as investigations into allegations of graft are concerned.

For one, while rejecting a private complaint by an activist, T J Abraham, for investigation of alleged corruption and money laundering by Yediyurappa and eight others, on the grounds that a sanction for investigating the CM was denied on June 23 by then Governor Vajubhai Vala, the special court on July 8 indicated that there is some substance in the complaint that merits an investigation. The court said the complaint was being rejected on account of denial of a sanction for probe by Vala.

The rich heritage of houseboats on water bodies of Kashmir Valley has always been a big tourist attraction. The stakeholders have always called it the 'Jewel of Tourism Industry' in the Kashmir Valley. But, more than 40 per cent of houseboats have vanished in the last three decades.

The reason people living on the lake say is that they do not get permission to repair the houseboats. They say that a huge number of repair requests are pending with the government for the restoration of these houseboats and the unending wait has led to a decrease in the numbers of these houseboats.

Uttarakhand misled HC on kanwar yatra: Petitioner to Supreme Court

in DNDQuick

One of the petitioners who had filed a PIL in the Uttarakhand high court on the Covid situation in the state has now approached the Supreme Court (SC) alleging that the state misled the HC on kanwar yatra. The petitioner, Anu Pant, has filed the application in the special leave petition (SLP) moved by the Uttarakhand government, challenging the HC’s order that stayed the phased opening of the Char Dham shrines.

Speaking to media, Abhijay Negi, counsel appearing for Pant, said that the state government had informed the HC that it has decided to cancel the kanwar yatra this season but media reports indicate that the government is reviewing its decision. “This is against what they told the HC and we will inform the apex court how the HC has been misled by the government,” Negi said.
