Karnataka CM says no confusion regarding cabinet expansion, portfolios

in DNDQuick

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said there is no confusion regarding cabinet expansion and portfolio allocation and that he would talk to all those who have issues and will resolve it. Amid simmering discontent within the party with several Ministerial aspirants not making it to the cabinet and some of those who have made it, being unhappy over the portfolios allocated to them, the Chief Minister pointed out that the cabinet exercise has been carried in a ”special circumstance”.

There are no confusions (regarding portfolio allocation)…Anand Singh (disgruntled Minister) had come yesterday, I have spoken to him, I have told him several matters, he is satisfied. I will call him in a couple of days and speak to him once again. There is no confusion in any way,” Bommai said. To a question on ”native” BJP leaders like S A Ramadas from the district being unhappy over not being part of the Ministry, he said, ”He is a good friend, I was in touch with him during the cabinet process. I will talk to him. He too is aware of several matters and how it (cabinet exercise) was done.” ”As a senior politician he has understood that the cabinet expansion has taken place is a special circumstance. I will speak to him, everything will be resolved,” he added.

Mamata writes to PM to oppose Centre's move to bring 'anti-people' Electricity Bill in Parliament

in DNDQuick

Opposing the Centre's move to place the "anti-people" Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020 in Parliament, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday shot a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to refrain from proceeding with the legislation. She requested the PM "to ensure that a broad-based and transparent dialogue on the subject is opened up at the earliest". "I write this letter to re-lodge my protest against the Union Government's fresh move to place the much-criticised Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020, in Parliament. It was proposed to be moved last year, but many of us had underlined the anti-people aspects of the draft legislation, and at least I had detailed out all the salient pitfalls of the Bill in a letter to you on June 12, 2020," she wrote. Banerjee had written to Modi on June 12 last year, expressing outrage over the draft Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020, which, she, said, was an attempt by the Centre to "destroy" the country's federal structure.

ICMR says combination of Covishield-Covaxin offers better protection

in DNDQuick

A combination of Covishield and Covaxin could not only be safe but elicits better immune protection and the adverse effects were no different as a same vaccine regimen, ICMR's analysis of a "serendipitous" Covid-19 vaccine-mix in Uttar Pradesh shows.

The study examined 18 individuals in UP who inadvertently received Covishield as the first jab and Covaxin as the second. Researchers compared the safety and immunogenicity profile of this group with two groups of individuals who received either Covishield or Covaxin.

"The findings suggest that immunisation with a combination of an adenovirus vector platform-based vaccine followed by an inactivated whole virus vaccine was not only safe but also elicited better immunogenicity," the pre-print of the Indian Council of Medical Research study published in MedRxiv says.

Siddaramaiah asks BJP not to get into 'petty politics' over renaming Indira Canteens

in DNDQuick

Former chief minister and Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, Siddaramaiah, asked the state's BJP government to not get into "petty politics" with its attempt to change the name of Indira Canteens, which are named after former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.

On Saturday, BJP general secretary CT Ravi sparked a row when he asked Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to change the name of Indira Canteens, a flagship programme launched during the previous Congress government to provide ready-to-eat food to economically disadvantaged people.

Opposing CT Ravi's statement that Indira Canteens should be renamed as Annapoorna Canteens, Siddaramaiah took to social media saying, "It has been tradition to name roads & govt buildings after National leaders."
