Monsoon begins to withdraw after 2nd-longest delay in 40 years

Summer monsoon commenced its withdrawal from northwest India on Wednesday against the normal date of September 17. It’s the second most delayed withdrawal of the southwest monsoon in 40 years. Withdrawal from Delhi-NCR and remaining parts of north-west India is likely to be complete in the next 3-4 days.

Announcing withdrawal of the southwest (summer) monsoon, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of west Rajasthan and some parts of adjoining Gujarat on Wednesday. “Conditions are becoming favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from some more parts of Gujarat, entire Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and some parts of Madhya Pradesh during the next 3-4 days,” it said.

Judge critical of police probe in Delhi riots cases transferred to Rouse Avenue

The Delhi high court on Wednesday transferred 11 judicial officers, including additional sessions judge (ASJ) Vinod Yadav, who was hearing the north-east Delhi riots cases.

ASJ Yadav was transferred from the Karkardooma Court to the Rouse Avenue court; and Special Judge (PC Act) (CBI) Virender Bhatt has been sent to Karkardooma.

Yadav has passed several orders criticising the Delhi Police’s probe in the riots, prompting Delhi Police commissioner Rakesh Asthana to form a special investigative cell (SIC) to monitor the progress in the cases. He also ordered that police officers who were posted in north-east Delhi during the riots have since been transferred, should be roped in for probe.

Deepender Hooda cautions, Yogi Adityanath and PM Narendra Modi

Congress leader Deepender Hooda on Tuesday cautioned the UP CM Yogi Adityanath over holding opposition leaders in jail.

Hooda junior, who has been detained with the AICC general secretary in charge for UP, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Sitapur police station of UP for the past two days cautioned Yogi and PM Narendera Modi.

In a democracy, rulers are not born to queens but are made from ballot boxes. And, people will never tolerate such acts as the role of Union minister’s son and his patronage by PM and UP CM and role of Haryana CM, said Hooda in a message released from Sitapur.

PM Modi visits Azadi@75 Expo in Lucknow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited ‘Azadi@75-New Urban India: Transforming Urban Landscape’ Expo at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow on Tuesday.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present here. PM Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of 75 Urban Development Projects of Uttar Pradesh under Smart Cities Mission and AMRUT today.

He will digitally hand over keys of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) houses to 75,000 beneficiaries in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh and will also interact virtually with beneficiaries of the scheme of Uttar Pradesh.

Election Commission allots new names, symbols for LJP factions

Less than a week after the Election Commission (EC) decided to freeze the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) symbol and the party name, it announced new names to the two factions led by Lok Sabha member Chirag Paswan and Union Minister Pashupati Kumar Paras.

Paswan’s faction will now be known as Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and will be represented by the helicopter symbol in the upcoming bypolls in Bihar. The rival faction led by his uncle has been allotted the name Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party and the sewing machine as election symbol.

“Neither of the two groups… shall be permitted to use the name of the party “Lok Janshakti Party” simplicitor,” the Election Commission stated in its order passed Saturday.
