Heavy Rains Flood Mizoram, Kill Eight

New Delhi: Eight persons have been killed and six others were missing after flash floods caused by heavy rainfall created havoc at Tlabung in Mizoram's Lunglei district.

As per the reports, landslides and incessant rains have blocked National Highway54 which links the state with Assam and several other roads in Aizawl town.

The power supply lines were snapped and telecommunication system was also disrupted in the state capital including Lunglei, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Serchhip and Champhai districts.

HC Judge CS Karnan to Retire While Still Absconding

New Delhi: In a first in India's judicial history, Calcutta High Court judge Justice CS Karnan, who is facing arrest for being held guilty under the Contempt of Courts Act and facing arrest, retired on Monday while being absconding.
Justice Karnan's arrest orders were issued after he sentenced Chief Justice of India JS Khehar and six other Supreme Court judges to five years in jail under the SC/ST Act. Since then Karnan has been missing since May 10 after the Supreme Court sentenced him to six months in jail.

No restrictions on food habits from Centre: Rajnath

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said the Centre will not impose any restrictions on people's choice of food. 
After chairing the first meeting of the chief ministers of four north-eastern states bordering Myanmar, the Home Minister on Monday said while addressing a press conference in Aizawal that, “There should be no restriction on one's choice of food.”

Fairoz Khan appointed as new NSUI president

New Delhi: Today, Congress appointed Fairoz Khan of Jammu and Kashmir as the new president of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the party's student wing.

AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi in a statement said, “Congress President Sonia Gandhi has accorded approval to the appointment of Fairoz Khan as NSUI President for a period of two years with immediate effect."
