China Exerts Pressure On Botswana To Cancel Dalai Lama’s Planned Visit

New Delhi: China has stated exerting pressure on the government of Botswana to cancel a planned visit next month by the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, to the southern African country. 

The office of Botswana's President Ian Khama said that the Dalai Lama is being invited to a human rights conference in the capital Gaborone in mid-August. The office added that the Dalai Lama is also scheduled to meet President Khama.

Nirmala says India has taken up visa issue with US

New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has told the Parliament that India has taken up the visa issue with US.

“The US has not made any 'comprehensive changes' in its work visa programmes, including H-1B visas, so far despite India taking up the issue with the American government from time to time,” she informed the Parliament.

Monsoon session of Parliament begins; Both Houses adjourned

New Delhi: The Monsoon session of Parliament began on Monday. Both Houses paid tributes to the departed sitting and former members of the House and the victims of the Amarnath terror attack before adjourning till Tuesday.

As soon as the Lok Sabha met, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan read the condolence message over the death of sitting MP Vinod Khanna and some former members of the House.

Jawan martyred, girl killed in unprovoked Pak firing

New Delhi: An army jawan was martyred while a girl was killed in Pakistani shelling in Balakote area of Bhimber Gali sector in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked mortar shelling and firing along Line of Control in Bhimber Gali sector, targeting forward defence locations and civilian areas. The shelling prompted an effective retaliation from the Indian troops.

Karnataka Prisons Whistleblower cop DIG Roopa transferred to Traffic Branch

New Delhi: In the aftermath of a report submitted to Karnataka DGP by DIG (Prisons) D. Roopa alleging irregularities in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru, the State government on Monday transferred her out of the Prisons Department to the post of DIG, Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety, Bengaluru. She had taken charge of the Prisons post on June 21.
