Shiv Sena’s dig at Centre over Z-plus security cover for Sameer Wankhede: ‘Send excess security personnel to Kashmir’

in DNDQuick

Maharashtra’s ruling party Shiv Sena today slammed the Centre alleging misuse of central forces in providing security to people who don’t deserve it. Speaking to the media, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said that if the Centre has spare security personnel, it should send them to Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh. He was referring to the Centre’s decision to provide Z-Plus security cover to Narcotics Control Bureau’s zonal director Sameer Wankhede.

"It seems the Centre has a lot of security forces to spare that people are given security like this. They should send the forces to Kashmir, Arunachal instead," said Sanjay Raut, adding that Maharashtra is a safe state for everyone.

Raut further said that those who do crooked work in the state are given Z-plus security. "An inquiry has to be done (in the cruise ship drug case and allegations against NCB official Sameer Wankhede). It’s not as if an inquiry is not done if someone has Z-plus security. Those who point fingers at the Maharashtra government and do crooked work here are felicitated with Z-plus security," said Raut.

Mumbai 2020 outage due to ‘cascade tripping’, not sabotage, says report

in DNDQuick

A report by a technical audit committee set up to probe the October 12, 2020 power outage in Mumbai concluded that the hours-long breakdown occurred due to cascade tripping, and not due to cyber sabotage by Chinese hackers as suggested by an international cybersecurity firm and a Maharashtra minister.

The report, prepared by the eight-member committee headed by Professor B Fernandes of IIT-Mumbai’s Department of Electrical Energy, was submitted in November 2020. “The report has said the outage happened due to cascade tripping. The Talegaon Kalwa line was damaged in heavy rains on October 10. This led to a load on three other lines,” Principal Secretary in the Energy Department, Dinesh Waghmare, told media.

Higher officials in government should be open to consultations, not let ego come in the way, says Gadkari

in DNDQuick

Pointing out ego as the biggest drawback of senior functionaries in the government, Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari said that everyone should be open to consultations as “no one can claim to be the perfect”.

While addressing an event to launch “Cunsult”, an app for getting instant advice on different issues from experts, Gadkari said, “Most people have ego and it’s more in the case of higher level functionaries in the government. They feel they know everything and they understand everything. So, there is less or no consultation. But we all need to understand that none is perfect and none can claim that he is perfect. We all have some shortcomings. We must consult others,” he added.
