UP government orders for videography of Independence Day events in madrassas

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government through its Madrassa Education Board has asked minority welfare officers to photograph and take videos of Independence Day events in all madrassas of the state.

The idea behind this decision, the circular stated, was "so that the best functions can be repeated in future".

Clerics in the state, including those from the influential Deoband and Bareilly seminaries, have strongly opposed the order, calling it an instance of the Yogi Adityanath government "displaying its suspicion and antipathy" towards the community.

Supreme Court appoints panel to frame schemes for rehabilitation, remarriage of abandoned widows

in DNDQuick

New Delhi:The Supreme Court has appointed a committee of social workers and a lawyer to recommend measures to be taken for rehabilitation of widows abandoned by their family members and to deliberate on framing a policy to promote widow remarriage in the country.

A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta said widow remarriage should be encouraged in society as it "might enable our society to give up the stereotype view of widows".

"It is a pity that these widows have been so unfortunately dealt with, as if they have ceased to be entitled to live a life of dignity and as if they are not entitled to the protection of Article 21 (right to life and personal liberty) of the Constitution," it said.
