73 Pc Voter Turnout In Nepal’s Final Phase Of Local Polls

New Delhi: Nepal has witnessed a high turnout of nearly 73 per cent polling in the final phase of the local- level elections in a Madhesi-dominated province, close to the border with India.

Barring some sporadic incidents, the third phase which was postponed twice due to opposition by Madhesi parties, passed off by-and-large peacefully in 136 local units of eight districts under the province.

Polling for the elections, being held for the first time in two decades, began at 7 AM and continued until 5 PM.

Ryan Gurugram To Remain Closed Till Monday Next

New Delhi: The Ryan International School in Gurugram will remained closed till next Monday as the family of 7 year-old Pradhuman Thakur, who was brutally killed on its campus, raised apprehensions about vital evidence being destroyed.

The school was opened to thin attendance September 18 but following the victim's father's objections, the district administration decided to close it till Monday next week. Meanwhile, a local court has sent all three accused Ashok Kumar, Francis Thomas and Jeyus Thomas in judicial custody till 29 of this month.

Nawaz Sharif's wife wins Lahore by-poll

New Delhi: Ousted Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's ailing wife has won the by-election in Lahore, considered as a test of support for the family after the Supreme Court dismissed Sharif from the office in the Panama Papers scandal.

Begum Kulsoom won the NA-120 seat in a close contest with cricket-turned-politician Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-i- Insaf candidate Yasmin Rashid.

The parliamentary seat, said to be a stronghold of the Sharif family, fell vacant after the apex court on July 28 disqualified Sharif in the Panama Papers case on grounds that he was dishonest.

Govt Saved Rs 65000 Crore By Implementing DBT, Says Javedkar

New Delhi: Human Resource Minister Prakash Javadekar has said that the government has saved 65 thousand crore rupees through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in various public schemes. Speaking at a function in Mumbai yesterday, Mr Javadekar said, scores of welfare schemes have been linked to DBT, under which the money are transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank accounts. 

DBT enables linking of Aadhar card to bank accounts and other subsidised services availed by citizens. It is being used to plug the loopholes in the system due to which the government incurred losses. The Minister said, government has successfully opened 30 crore Jan Dhan bank accounts and 118 crore Aadhar numbers have been issued.

Congress's Manish Tewari Creates Political Storm By Using Abusive Remarks Against PM

New Delhi: Congress leader Manish Tewari has created a political storm with a twitter post using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Tewari is the second Congress leader after party general secretary Digvijaya Singh to come under fire for using foul language against Modi. Singh had recently retweeted a post which contained expletives against the prime minister.

In his post, Tewari wrote in Hindi in Roman script about how Modi "befooled" people and that, "Even Mahatma cannot teach MODI Deshbhakti (patriotism)".
