Pakistan Registers Protest Against US Advocating Greater Role For India In Afghanistan

New Delhi: Pakistan has registered protest against US advocating greater role for India in the war-torn Afghanistan.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi during a meeting with US Vice-President Mike Pence on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly  expressed concern over the greater role that US president Donald Trump advocated for India in his new Afghan policy, foreign secretary Tehmina Janjua said.

Janjua's meeting with Pence was the highest contact between the two countries since Donald Trump announced his new policy on Afghanistan and South Asia on August 21 in which he had warned Pakistan for its continued support to terrorist groups and warned Islamabad of consequences if it continues to do so.

At SCO meet, India reaffirms need for UNSC reforms; Condemns terrorism in all forms

New Delhi: India has strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet on the sidelines of UN General Assembly in New York, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, there can be no justification for any act of terrorism. She said connectivity with the SCO countries is India's priority. 

Mrs Swaraj said India wants connectivity to pave the way for cooperation and trust between our societies. She also said India, as a member of SCO, will cooperate extensively to further consolidate the SCO as an effective regional platform.

Calcutta HC criticises Bengal govt over Durga idol immersion ban on Muharram

New Delhi: The Calcutta High Court has told the Bengal government that it could not encroach upon  constitutional right of a citizen to practice religion on the mere assumption that there could be disruption of law and order.

"Let them (Hindus and Muslims) live in harmony, do not create a line between them," acting chief justice Rakesh Tiwary said, referring to the government's decision to disallow the immersion of Durga idols on October 1, when Muharram would be observed.

TN CM Palaniswami asserts no one can topple his government

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswai has attacked, albeit indirectly on sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran, saying those who had never faced polls were "dreaming" of coming to power, and asserted that his "stable" government could not be toppled by anyone.

Speaking at the birth centenary celebrations of AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran at Nagapattinam, he also slammed DMK leader MK Stalin for "dreaming" about dislodging his government.

"Those who have never faced the people through elections are dreaming of coming to power, toppling the government and splitting the AIADMK," Palaniswami said, in an apparent attack on Dhinakaran, a former Rajya Sabha member who is spearheading a rebellion against him in the party.

Govt Inaugurates First Pension Adalat For Central Govt Employees

New Delhi: Union Minister for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the first Pension Adalat and a pension app for Central Government employees in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Adalat aims to quick resolve long pending pension cases.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Singh hoped that the initiative will inspire state governments to take such measures for their employees. He said that the current government’s aim is to make lives of pensioners easy and rewarding. He also said that the government is using its long experience in opposition to do constructive work in every sector including pension.
