PM In Varanasi Today; Development Driven Itinerary

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi today for a two-day visit to inaugurate several projects covering sectors like infrastructure, railways, financial inclusion and sanitation.

Among the highlights will be the flagging off of the Mahamana Express train which will connect Varanasi with Surat and Vadodara in Gujarat.

"Tomorrow I begin my Varanasi visit, during which various development works will be launched," Modi tweeted last night.

Cong asks Centre to make public evidences of Rohingya’s links with ISIS

New Delhi: The Congress has asked the Centre to make public "whatever evidences" it has about any links of some of the Rohingyas with the ISIS and take action as per Indian law against those found having any such connection.

The party, however, said that "false allegations" should not be levelled against any person.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala’s  statement has come in the backdrop of  Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s assertion that Rohingyas are illegal immigrants and not refugees who have applied for asylum in India. Singh also asked why some people were objecting to the deportation of Rohingyas when Myanmar was ready to accept them.

No role in Gauri Lankesh killing: Sanathan Sanstha

New Delhi: Hindu outfit Sanatan Sanstha has unequivocally denied any involvement in the killing of activist-journalist Gauri Lankesh outside her home, calling the allegations against the group an effort to "falsely implicate" it.

Lankesh, a journalist known for her anti-right wing views, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Bengaluru on September 5.

Her assassination came days after the second anniversary of the killing of noted Kannada writer and rationalist M M Kalburgi, who fell to bullets fired by two unidentified men at his residence at Dharwad in north Karnataka on August 30, 2015.

Two Civilians Killed In Militants Attack On J&K Minister's Convoy

New Delhi: Two civilians were killed and 34 others injured when militants carried out a grenade attack on the motorcade of a senior minister of Jammu and Kashmir in Tral area of Pulwama district.

The Minister for Public Works, Naeem Akhtar, who was on a tour of Tral in south Kashmir, escaped unhurt in the attack.

The explosion killed 17-year-old Pinky Kour and 56-year- old Ghulam Nabi Trag, an official said, adding 34 others, including 7 security personnel, were injured.

"I am unhurt myself but I am very sad because this claimed two lives...I feel very sad for them," Akhtar said.

Calcutta HC Allows Durga Idol Immersion On All Days, Including Muharram

New Delhi: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday allowed immersion of Durga idols on all days from Vijayadashami on the 30th of this month, including on Muharram, and directed the West Bengal government to make necessary security arrangements. 

The court asked the state government to chalk out designated routes for immersion and tazia processions.

It said that immersion of Durga idols would be held on all days according to the Hindu almanac, including that on Muharram on the 1st of October, when such processions were prohibited by the state administration.
