Rajiv Mehrishi Takes Over As New CAG

New Delhi: Rajiv Mehrishi took over as the Comptroller and Auditor General on Monday. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Mr Mehrishi succeeds Shashi Kant Sharma who demitted office on Friday.

Mr Mehrishi, a 1978 batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, completed his two-year fixed term as the Home Secretary last month. He had held several posts in both his state cadre Rajasthan and in the Centre.

Mr Mehrishi also served as Economic Affairs Secretary and Chief Secretary of Rajasthan.

Mukul Roy Suspended From TMC For Six Years

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member and former railway minister Mukul Roy was suspended from the party for six years for anti-party activities on Monday.

Party secretary general Partha Chatterjee said, TMC's disciplinary committee discussed Mr Roy's attempts to weaken the party and recommended punishment for him to party supremo Mamata Banerjee.

Earlier in the day, Mr Roy tendered his resignation from the party's working committee. He also told reporters that he would resign from the Upper House of Parliament and give up the primary membership of the party after Durga Puja.

Rahul 'Thanks' Sushma For Acknowledging Cong Legacy

New Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has thanked External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for  "recognising" his party's idea of opening IITs and IIMs in the country.

He was referring to Swaraj's hard-hitting speech at the United Nations General Assembly, where she gave the examples of these premier institutes as India's achievements and said Pakistan, in contrast, had "produced terrorists".

Rahul tweeted, "Sushma ji, thank you for finally recognising Congress governments' great vision and legacy of setting up IITs and IIMs."

VHP Assails Ansari For Attending PFI Event

New Delhi: The VHP has assailed former vice-president Hamid Ansari for attending an event organised by the women's wing of Popular Front of India which is facing probe for alleged links with terror outfits.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad Joint General Secretary Surendra Jain said Ansari stands exposed after attending the programme.

"He was spreading dissatisfaction in the Muslim community even when he was holding the post of Vice President," he said.

Two Booked After Rape Victim Writes To PMO

New Delhi: Haryana police have registered a case of gang rape and harassment against two employees of a private school in Sonipat district after the survivor sent an anonymous email to the Prime Minister Office. 

In her email, the survivor, a minor, has alleged that she was gang-raped by the duo and was forced to accompany them to a hotel.

The girl alleged that she informed her class teacher as well as the principal and director of the school about the wrongdoings but no action was taken against the accused and she continued to face the trauma.
