India Opens Two Immigration Check Posts Along Borders With Myanmar, Bangladesh

New Delhi: India has opened two immigration check posts along the borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, yet another sign of its growing closeness with the two eastern neighbours.

In a gazette notification, the home ministry said the central government has designated Zorinpui land check post in Lawngtlai district of Mizoram as an authorised immigration check post for entry into or exit from India with valid travel documents for all classes of passengers to or from Myanmar.

In a separate notification, the ministry said the central government designated Kawrpuichhuah land check post in Lunglei district of Mizoram as an authorised immigration check post for entry into or exit from India with valid travel documents for all classes of passengers to or from Bangladesh.

CPM’s Youth Wing Gives Entry To Transgenders

New Delhi: In a significant move, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the CPI (M), has inducted nine members of the transgender community into the organisation.

The newly set up PMG unit committee of DYFI in Thiruvananthapuram has 11 members, nine of them are trangenders. It is the first unit of the outfit in the country to have opened doors for the transgenders.

The party also added a third gender column in its membership form. At a function held to welcome the new members, Transgender Justice Board member and artist Surya Abhilash was elected as the president of the unit.

Delhi Metro Justifies Proposed Fare Hike

New Delhi: Amid a stiff opposition from the Delhi government over the proposed fare increase, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has said, the hike is necessary to meet input costs and to keep providing a world-class service. 
In a statement, DMRC said the input cost for the Delhi Metro has increased by over 105 per cent in energy, 139 per cent in staff cost and by 213 per cent for repair and maintenance since 2009.

Germany Rejoices First Gay Marriages

New Delhi: Two German men have created by saying "I do" and becoming the first same-sex couple to marry after decades of struggle.

Bodo Mende, 60, and partner Karl Kreile, 59, exchanged their vows at a desk decked out with white flowers and rainbow flags. 

Then, they turned to offer a shot of their first embrace as a married couple to the throng of photographers and TV crews from around the world who packed the south Berlin registry office alongside their friends and family.

Burqa Ban In Austria Comes Into Effect

New Delhi: Austria's law banning face veils such as burkhas or niqabs comes into effect from Sunday. The government said, acceptance and respect of Austrian values are basic conditions for successful cohabitation between the majority Austrian population and people from third countries living in Austria. 
It also said, exemptions under certain conditions include items like clown disguises at cultural events, work wear such as medical masks, and scarves in cold weather. There are around 7 lakh Muslims in Austria, which has a population of about eight million.
