Sitharaman To Spend Diwali With Troops In Andamans

New Delhi: Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman will celebrate Diwali with troops and interact with their families in Andmans.

In her first visit to the country's only theatre command, where all manpower and assets of Navy, Army, IAF and Coast Guard are under one operational commander, Sitharaman will be in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Wednesday and Thursday.

"Apart from reviewing the operational role of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) and visiting the airbase at Car Nicobar, the minister will celebrate Diwali with troops and interact with their families," said an officer.

BJP Asks Congress To Break Silence On Vadra-Bhandari 'Links'

New Delhi: BJP has asked Congress leadership to break their "silence" over media reports that claimed that Robert Vadra had "links" with fugitive arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari.

Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman asserted that silence of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi will be construed as acceptance of charges against Vadra.

Citing a media report, Sitharaman alleged that a London house linked to Vadra was refurbished by Bhandari, who also made arrangements for his travel abroad.

Dalai Lama Arrives In Manipur On Maiden Visit

New Delhi: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Tuesday arrived in Manipur's capital Imphal on his maiden visit to participate in an international peace conference.

This is his second visit to the northeast this year - after Arunachal Pradesh in April - but the first to Manipur. Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Speaker Y Khemchand received him at the airport.

Pakistan Seeks Extension Of Hafiz Saeed's House Arrest

New Delhi: Pakistan's Punjab government has sought detention of Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed extended under public safety law, two days after it withdrew its application to prolong his house arrest.

Saeed, the chief of Jamat-ud-Dawah who has been under house arrest since January, was brought before a three-member provincial judicial review board amid high security.

50 Indian Peacekeepers In Sudan Awarded UN Medal

New Delhi: Fifty Indian peacekeepers stationed in South Sudan have been awarded the UN Medal for their professionalism and service in protecting civilians and building durable peace in the conflict-ridden country. 

UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Force Commander General Frank Mushyo Kamanzi awarded the UN Medal to the officers serving with the Indian Battalion, located in Bor in the Jonglei region of South Sudan. 

He acknowledged their contribution in carrying out patrols across the region as well as providing a safe and secure environment for the 2,500 civilians who have sought sanctuary at the United Nations Protection of Civilians site at Bor.
