China Denies Channelling Brahmaputra Waters

New Delhi: China has denied that it has plans to build a 1,000-km long tunnel to divert waters of the Brahmaputra from Tibet to its arid Xinjiang region.

Reacting to a story published in Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post, Beijing described the report as false.

The denial came from the Chinese foreign ministry after the newspaper claimed that Chinese engineers had submitted the plan to higher authorities in Beijing for approval, and were awaiting a nod.

Survey Finds Realty Investments Up 100% In Top 6 Cities

New Delhi: India's six major cities — Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, New Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad — have recorded 100% increase in investments in real estate sector at $2.87 billion during July 2016-June 2017. 

Mumbai, with an investment of $1.75 billion from foreign as well as domestic private equity investors, has moved up to 81st position in the global survey on rankings of cities for attracting capital from 149th slot in 2016, , according to a survey by Cushman and Wakefield.

Also, the financial capital has witnessed highest growth among the gateway cities of the world with 194% increase in investment from $594 million in the same period last year.

EC Hearing OnAIADMK Symbol Row Inconclusive

New Delhi: The Election Commission's hearing on the AIADMK symbol feud has remained inconclusive with the rival factions accusing each other of tying to delay a decision in the matter.

The poll panel has now set November 1 as the next date of hearing the two sides.

The former attorney general and counsel for E K Palaniswami-O Panneerselvam camp, MukulRohatgi, alleged that rival SasikalaNatrajan's nephew T T V Dhinakaran's counsel deliberately tried to drag the proceedings.

Railway Forms Will Now Carry ‘T’ Option For Transgenders

New Delhi: Transgenders will now have the option of identifying themselves as the third gender with the railway board modifying rail reservation forms to provide the option 'T', besides 'M' (male) and 'F' (female).

In a letter to all zonal railways, the board has said that ticket booking and cancellation forms will be modified from the current option of 'Transgender (male/female)' to just 'T'.

According to the letter, the social justice and empowerment ministry is at present dealing with various issues of transgenders and a proposed legislation on this — The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2016 — is being reviewed by a parliamentary standing committee.

SC Decrees That Unitech MD To Get Bail Only After Firm Deposits Rs750 Crore

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has said, it will consider granting bail to Unitech Limited Managing Director Sanjay Chandra after the real estate firm deposits ₹750 crore by December end. 

A bench, headed by Chief Justice DipakMisra said, the money, to be deposited in the apex court registry, will be used in facilitating refund to the home buyers who want their money back.

Advocate Pawan Shree Aggarwal, assisting the court as an amicus curiae in the matter, told the bench that the real estate firm needed around ₹ 2,000 crore to refund money to home buyers as well as completing the ongoing projects.
