Supreme Court Tells States To Show Some Compassion For Homeless, Construct Shelter Homes For Them

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has castigated the state governments for their apathy and insensitivity towards the plight of homeless people in the country and appealed to them to show "sympathy and compassion" by constructing shelter homes for them. 

A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta pointed out the utter insensitivity of state governments for neglecting the plight of urban homeless people. 

It said that benefits under Centre's ambitious project National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) were not reaching to the homeless and even suggested the Centre to scrap the scheme as the welfare funds were being siphoned off by state governments.

Regulator Asks Companies To Link All Insurance Policies To Aadhaar And PAN

New Delhi:  Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has made it mandatory for companies to link Aadhaar with every individual policy. 

The move comes even as the Supreme Court has asked banks not to spread panic through text messages on deadlines for linking bank accounts to Aadhaar.

Apprehension is high that insurers may hold claims payments until policyholders submit their Aadhaar and PAN number.

New Delhi: The Nirbhay missile was successfully testfiredon Tuesday, November 7 by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) at 11:20 am, from Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Odisha'sBalasore.
 
It is India’s first indigenously designed and developed long range sub-sonic cruise missile.Minister NirmalaSitharaman from the Ministry of Defense has "hailed the success of DRDO." And said, the missile took-off as programmed and "majestically cruised" for a duration of 50 minutes at a range of 647-km.

Pakistan’s Former PM Nawaz Sharif Indicted In Three References

New Delhi: Pakistan's accountability court has formally indicted ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif in three separate corruption references filed against him and his children by the National Accountability Bureau.

The court adjourned the hearing until November 15.

Rejecting his plea to club all the cases together, the judge called the former PM to the rostrum and read out the charges to him in each of the three references. Calling the investigation "malafide and politically motivated", Sharif pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Mayawati says Nitish should initiate action on pvt sector quota

New Delhi: BSP supremoMayawatihas asked Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to initiate action at his level on private sector reservation quota instead of making "hollow statements". 

Responding to Kumar`s advocacy for reservation in private sector, she said, "Those in alliance with the BJP in Bihar should ensure that reservation is given and not demanded. Mere hollow statements and cheap publicity on the matter will not suffice. The Bihar chief minister should initiate action at his level also."

 Her comments came against the backdrop of the Bihar chief minister favouring a 50 per cent reservation for backward classes in the private sector jobs and his suggestion for a national debate on it.
