Congress Says Modi Behind "Economic Chaos"

New Delhi: The Congress has accused Prime Minister NarendraModi of creating "economic chaos" in the country and demanded that his government take immediate steps to bring the economy back on track and check further price rise.

Congress spokesperson RPN Singh expressed concern over the allegedly widening trade deficit which, he said, was at a 3-year high with a slump in exports.

He said inflation, at a six-month peak, was hitting common people hard.

Arvind Kejriwal Meets Manohar Lal Khattar, Discusses Air Pollution

New Delhi: Haryana Chief Minister ManoharLal and Delhi Chief Minister ArvindKejriwal have agreed upon the need for action on many measures aimed at preventing recurrence of smog in the winters of 2018. 

In a meeting at Chandigarh on Wednesday, they discussed various reasons for air pollution including crop residue burning and vehicular pollution and resolved to put sustained efforts to tackle the problem.

In a joint statement, both the Chief Ministers said, the meeting was fruitful and both leaders shared deep concern on the heavy smog in the National Capital Region. Both leaders said that polluted air is a serious health risk and requires concrete and quick action on number of fronts.

Report Says Lifestyle Diseases Biggest Killer Even In Most Backward States

New Delhi: A study has found that lifestyle diseases like heart and chronic respiratory diseases now kill more people than communicable ones like tuberculosis or diarrhoea in every state in India, including the most backward. 

This was revealed in the India State-Level Disease Burden Initiative's Report.

The report notes that while all states have thus made what's called the 'epidemiological transition', there remain wide variations in their disease profiles with some having made that transition as early as 1986, and others as recently as 2010.

Reduced GST Rates On Restaurants Comes Into Effect From Today

New Delhi: The reduced GST rates come into effect from Wednesday. GST on 178 items had reduced to 18 percent from 28 percent. These include a wide range of common use items. Eight items have been moved from 12 percent slab category to 5 percent. 

Union Finance minister ArunJaitley had announced major GST relief to promote ease of doing business last Friday. He said all stand-alone restaurants irrespective of air-conditioned or otherwise, would attract 5 percent tax without Input Tax Credit, ITC.

Delhi Pips Goa, Maharashtra To Emerge Most Tourist-Friendly: Survey

New Delhi: The national capital has been ranked number one among 30 Indian states for its relative competitiveness in the area of travel and tourism.

The biennial state ranking survey, released by the World Travel and Tourism Council India Initiative (WTTCII) and Hotelivate, employed 11 key parameters to evaluate the performance of each participating state and to identify the winner.

While Delhi climbed to the top spot by nudging Maharashtra and Goa to the second spot, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala, West Bengal, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh followed in the list of Top 10.
