Foreign Retailers Need To Work With Kirana Stores: Suresh Prabhu

New Delhi: Commerce and industry minister Suresh Prabhu has asserted there is a needto adopt policiesthat will help incoming foreign retailers work hand-in-hand with existing kirana stores.

"Earlier, there was fear among domestic retailers, when corporate houses entered," said Prabhu. "But now, there is a need to understand the complementarity between those already in business and those who will enter with more capital. How do we make the end consumer benefit? Public policy is all about that."

Currently, the FDI policy allows overseas companies to own up to 51% stake in an Indian multi-brand retail company.

Apex Court Library Finally Makes Space For Portraits Of Women Lawyers

New Delhi: In its 67-year history, the Supreme Court will put a portrait of a woman lawyer in one of its libraries.
None other than, ‘Mother of PILs’ Pushpa Kapila Hingorani becomes the first woman lawyer to get her portrait in the Supreme Court Library.

Hingorani passed away on December 30, 2013. Her most notable contribution to law and society was the initiation of the unique remedial jurisprudence of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the apex court of India in 1979

Hingorani, the first Indian woman to graduate from Cardiff Law School in Britain, was the first lawyer to sought justice for prisoners awaiting trial for long time periods.

River Saraswati’s Location May Have Forever Been Altered Due To Climatic Conditions Say Scientists

New Delhi: The Saraswati River is one of the main Rig vedic rivers mentioned in ancient Sanskrit texts as one of the most sacred of Indian rivers. 

Now modern scientist have come out with new evidence that say that the Indus valley civilization which supposedly grew along the banks of the river Saraswati may actually have been on a tributary of the river Sutlej and furthermore  the Saraswati itself may have been a seasonal river.

The findings derived from new geological evidence gathered by the international team of scientists led by Sanjeev Gupta, a geologist with Imperial College London, shed new light on how the Indus Valley civilization grew and died.

Inquiry Ordered Into Max Hospital Medical Negligence Case

New Delhi: Delhi government has ordered an inquiry into Max Hospital medical negligence case in the city. In an incident, premature twins were allegedly declared dead by this private hospital and were handed in a polythene bag to their parents who realized that one of them is alive only when they were on way to perform the last rites. 

The twins were born on Thursday morning at Max Hospital Shalimar Bagh. City Health Minister Satyendar Jain said, he has also sought a report on shocking criminal negligence.

Congress Poll Process Starts Today, Rahul Gandhi May Become Party President In Fortnight

New Delhi: Congress will set the process for election of party president in motion today as Rahul Gandhi is likely to be elevated to the highest part post within a fortnight.

The notification announcing the election process will be issued on Friday morning, with aspirants allowed to file nominations by December 4. The papers will be scrutinised on December 5 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is December 11.
