Now, Discoms To Pay For Blackouts Caused By Power Shortage

New Delhi: Discoms will be made to pay for blackouts caused by power shortage and pre-paid meters will be the norm rather than exception two years from now.

"Our vision is that we want 24X7 power for all by March 2019. Now it will be a legal obligation. After March 2019, if there is any load shedding without any reason there will be penalties, except in case of technical issues or act of God," power minister R K Singh told reporters after discussing a slew reforms with his counterparts from states.

Another Set Of Hardik Tapes Goes Viral, Aides Accuse BJP

New Delhi: As campaigning for Gujarat Assembly phases reaches its crescendo, another set of videos of Patidar quota leader Hardik Patel and two others with a girl have gone viral. 

The videos triggered a verbal duel between Hardik's outfit - Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) - and BJP.

This is the third such set of videos of the quota warrior. Two other sets had gone viral last month. Hardik had then said BJP had been "crazy to release the videos in haste". The videos should have been made viral five to seven days before polling, he had said. Hardik had also predicted BJP would release more such videos to "malign his image".

3 Pakistanis Among 8 LeT Men Get Lifer

New Delhi: Eight Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives, including three from Pakistan, were sentenced to life imprisonment by an additional district court in Jaipur for plotting terror strikes and recruiting Indians to the Pak-based militant organization.

Along with their life sentences, the three have been slapped with a penalty of Rs 3 lakh each under Section 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The Pakistani LeT members - Asgar Ali, Shakkar Ulla and Mohammad Iqbal - were lodged in separate jails in India. Despite being in prison, they were able to make contacts with people outside to recruit members for their organization. They were acting at the behest of Lashkar commander in Pakistan Walid alias Vicky.

SC Collegium Endorses 19 Lawyers For HC Judgeship

New Delhi: The Supreme Court collegium has recommended to the Centre names of 19 lawyers for being elevated as judges for Calcutta, Madras and Karnataka high courts.

The collegium, comprising of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and two seniormost judges, Justices J Chelameswar and Ranjan GogoI, forwarded the names to Centre for its consideration. It considered the names of 25 advocates, who were recommended by high courts for judgeship, but cleared 19 names out of them. Nine lawyers were recommended for Madras HC and five each for Calcutta and Karnataka HCs.

After Mary Kom, Sushil Kumar Resigns As National Sports Observer

New Delhi: A week after five-time world champion Mary Kom resigned as the National Sports Observer, Indian star wrestler and two-time Olympic medallistSushil Kumar also stepped down from the position of wrestling.

As both the top athletes are still active in their respective fields, wrestling (Men) and Boxing (Women), Sushil and Mary felt that this could be seen as a conflict of interest.

Keeping in mind the best of the sporting traditions, the two athletes have decided to submit their resignation, which was eventually accepted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
