Assocham Says Only 20% Of Students From B-Schools Get Job Offers

New Delhi: In a shocking revelation, Assocham has found thatonly 20 per students from business schools are landing job offers, making this placement year the most challenging in recent times.

The chamber observed that job opportunities for business school (B-school) students are drying on account of factors like demonetisation, lacklustre business sentiment and stalling of new projects.

"Grim placement scenario is reflected in B-school campus hiring this year which has gone down severely than last year which was 30 per cent. The salary packages which are offered at B-schools and engineering colleges are also being curtailed by 40-45 per cent as compared to last year," Assocham said.

Pradeep Singh Kharola Becomes New Air India CMD

New Delhi: Senior IAS officer Pradeep Singh Kharola has taken the charge as the Chairman and Managing Director of Air India. Kharola assumed charge from Rajiv Bansal.

A 1985-batch Karnataka cadre officer, Kharola would be steering the national carrier at a time when the government has started the process for its strategic disinvestment. He was the managing director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd since February 2015.

Among others, Kharola has worked in various posts in Karnataka, including as the chairman of Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation Ltd. He has also served as principal secretary to the Karnataka chief minister.

Mayawati Dares BJP To Conduct Polls With Ballot Paper

New Delhi: BSP chief Mayawati has challenged the BJP to conduct Assembly and LokSabha elections on ballot paper instead of electronic voting machines (EVM).

Addressing a rally in Nagpur, Mayawati said, "If BJP thinks that they are honest and transparent then they should conduct all the upcoming elections in the country with ballot paper instead of EVM." 

She said that the BJP's silence on the issue showed that EVMs had irregularities in elections that were conducted in various parts of India since 2014.Mayawati claimed that the BSP had to suffer heavy losses in elections to the LokSabha in 2014 as well as the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in 2017 due to these irregularities.

First National Informatics Centre Computer Emergency Response Team (NIC CERT)Launched

New Delhi: Union Minister of Law & Justice and Electronics & Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad has launched first National Informatics Centre Computer Emergency Response Team (NIC CERT) to prevent and predict cyber attacks on government utilities.

During the inauguration, Mr Prasad said that as part of its Digital India initiatives, the Government has introduced a lot of its services online. Although this has made services very accessible to the citizens, it has also exposed them to the threats and vulnerabilities which are an inherent part of cyberspace.

Study Finds 86% Of Senior Citizens Unaware Of Human Rights

New Delhi: A study report has revealed that human rights of the elderly people are increasingly being violated because of the "popularity of nuclear and small families, lack of intergenerational interaction, and non-existence of an inclusive social security system".

The study was conducted by Agewell Foundation on 5,000 seniorcitizens across India. The study report was released on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.The report also mentions that almost 86% of senior citizens are unaware of their human rights and only 68.8% have access to necessary medicines and healthcare. The situation is worse in urban areas.
