New Delhi: UK Prime Minister Theresa May has asserted that the Islamic Stateterror group has been "crushed" in Iraq and Syria with the efforts of Britain's armed forces.

May praised the Royal Air Force (RAF) men and women at Britain's Akrotiri base in the country for their key role on Operation Shader, the codename for the fight against Islamic State (ISIS), and diminishing the hold of terrorists in the Middle East.

"Just three years ago, Daesh [ISIS] declared a caliphate in Iraq and Syria, a safe haven in which to carry out the most barbaric acts and in which to plot murder on our streets at home," she saidduring a surprise Christmas visit to troops in Cyprus.

New Delhi:  Rahul Gandhi will chair his first meeting of the Congress Working Committee as party president today.

The CWC will accord a warm welcome to the new president and likely discuss the current political situation, including the ramifications of the Congress strong performance in the Gujarat Assembly polls for the party in future.

The 2G spectrum case judgement acquitting all the accused is also likely to be discussed. The BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had used the alleged scam to the hilt while mounting a fierce campaign against the Congress in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh has emphasized the need to adopt smart policing concept with the latest technology and said that there should be cyber crime experts at every police station. 

Delivering Intelligence Bureau endowment lecture in New Delhi on Friday evening, Mr Singh said, there is a need that people should increase their trust and confidence in police. 

He said sheer presence of police during law and order problem brings the situation to normalcy. He also lauded the role of security agencies of the country in tackling terrorism and left-wing extremism. 

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has assailed Congress for supporting the 18th-century ruler Tipu Sultan and said that the defeat of Congress in the upcoming assembly elections in Karnataka will also signal the end of "Tipu worshipers in the state".

Speaking at BJP's Parivartan Yatra in Karnataka's Hubali, the UP CM asked the people of Karnataka to defeat Congress— which had supported the celebrations to mark Tipu Jayanti in the state in November this year— in the upcoming assembly elections expected to be held in May next year.
