Lok Sabha Passes Insolvency And Bankruptcy Code Amendment Bill

New Delhi: The LokSabha on Friday passed the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill -2017 with a voice vote. he bill prohibits certain persons from submitting a resolution plan in case of defaults. 

These include wilful defaulters, promoters or management of the company having an outstanding non-performing debt for over a year. 

The Bill also has provisions to bar the sale of property of a defaulter to such persons during liquidation.

Lack Of Constitutional Sovereignty Will Lead To Anarchy: CJI

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India DipakMisra on Friday said Constitutional sovereignty is supreme and all must surrender before it.

Justice Misra said the country will plunge into anarchy in absence of Constitutional sovereignty. He further said it is mandatory for all to abide by the rule of the law. 

Justice Misra was addressing a function organised by the All Odisha Lawyers Association in Bhubaneswar.

Dhinakaran Says Sasikala On A 'Vow Of Silence' In Prison

New Delhi: The deposed AIADMK leaderSasikala's nephewT T V Dhinakaran has said that she is on a "vow of silence" in the central prison in Chennai since the death anniversary of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on December 5.

Sasikala is serving a four year jail term in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case after the Supreme Court convicted her and two others in February this year.

"She is on a maunaviratham (vow of silence) since Amma's (Jayalalithaa) death anniversary (on December 5)," Dhinakaran told reporters after meeting his aunt in the ParappanaAgrahara Prison.

BJP Moves Privilege Motion Against Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: The BJP has moved a privilege motion in RajyaSabha against Congress president Rahul Gandhi for poking fun at finance minister Arun Jaitley and "twisting'' his name. 

Chairman Venkaiah Naidu said he was examining the motion moved by BJP MP BhupendraYadav.

"The notice given by (BJP member) BhupendraYadav regarding a privilege motion is before me. I have to examine it and then take a view. I will be going through the privilege motion and take an appropriate decision," Naidu said as the House assembled after a brief adjournment.

Govt Engaged With China On Issue Of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Via Nathu La: Minister

New Delhi: Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh has said the government is engaged with China on the issue of the KailashMansarovarYatra via the Nathu La route which was not undertaken this year in the aftermath of the military face-off between India and China.

The issue was also raised by external affairs minister SushmaSwarajwith her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi during a meeting here a fortnight ago, Singh said in a written reply to a question in the RajyaSabha.

"The KailashManasarovarYatra via the Nathu La route was not undertaken in 2017 after the Chinese government cited unfavourable conditions to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the yatra on this route," Singh said.
