Official Says Gujarat Kite Making Industry Likely To See 2.5 Pc Growth This Fiscal

New Delhi: The kite making industry in Gujarat is likely see a growth of just 2.5 per cent this fiscal as compared to last year.

"With the growing popularity of International Kite Festival in Gujarat, the kite making industry is also growing steadily. However, this financial year we expect the kite making industry to generate Rs 625 crore to Rs 630 crore, a growth of just 2.5 per cent against last year," Gujarat Tourisms principal secretary S J Haider told reporters in Ahmedabad.

The kite making industry, that employs over 48,140 people directly and indirectly, witnessed a 7.5 per cent revenue growth of Rs 615 crore in 2016-17, compared to Rs 572 crore in FY16.

New Delhi:US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has said that President Donald Trump's tweet about having a bigger nuclear button than North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's has kept Kim "on his toes" and makes clear the risks of a nuclear standoff.

After Kim asserted that he had a nuclear button at the ready, Trump last week dismissed the taunt by saying in a tweet that the US button at his disposal was bigger and more powerful.

The comment drew criticism, including from former Vice-President Joe Biden, who said it caused allies to lose confidence in Washington

AIMPLB Wants Meeting With President Kovind On Triple Talaq Bill

New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) will approach President RamnathKovindover the triple talaq bill.

The Board fears the central government may bring an ordinance on the Muslim Women Protection of Rights on Marriage bill, 2017, if it fails to get it passed in the RajyaSabha. The LokSabha has passed the bill.

"We think the government might bring in an ordinance and if it does so the haste will only prove that the government is against democratic process. It will be against the spirit of Constitution. Which is why we are seeking to meet the President on the issue," said AIMPLB spokesperson MaulanaKhalilurRahmadSajjadNomani.

Anna Hazare threatens to go on fast from March 23

New Delhi: Social activist Anna Hazarehas  said he would undertake a fast from March 23 in Delhi if his demand for passing "proper" bills for Lokpal, Lokayuktaand electoral reforms were not met.

Hazare said this time it will be "aar-ya-paar" (final) till he gets the results he wished.

Speaking to reporters at Belagaviin Karnataka, he said he had hopes on Prime Minister NarendraModi who he thought would bring changes in the political system and usher in a corruption free state but they were belied.

Rahul Snubs Govt Over Delay In Appointing Lokpal

New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi has assailed the Modi government over continued delay in appointment of Lokpal, even four years after the enactment of the law for setting up the institution.

“Four years have gone by, but the Lokpal has not come.
The public is asking only one question, till when will you blow the tune of falsehood?” 

"Are the 'defenders of democracy' and 'harbingers of accountability' listening?" he asked in tweets using '#FindingLokpal' as hashtag.
