Gender Gap Reduces in Higher Education: HRD Survey

New Delhi: Gender gap in India’s institutes of higher studies has reduced by nine lakh in the last five years with girl students outnumbering men in eight disciplines in 2016-17 academic session, according to a survey of the HRD ministry.

While in master’s of arts, there are 160 women for every 100 men; in bachelor’s of science (nursing) has 384 women for every 100 men.

Even in the postgraduate classes of science and commerce, women have handsomely outnumbered men with 167 and 158 respectively per 100 males. However, in undergraduate and technical and professional courses like BTech, law or management, the enrolment is skewed in favour of males and the gap is significant.

Owaisi Snubs Shia Waqf Board Chief Over Madrassa Remark

New Delhi: AIMIM president AsaduddinOwaisi has hit back at Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board chairman WaseemRizvi for writing to the prime minister requesting for shutting down Madrassas, alleging these Muslim seminaries encouraged students to join terrorism.

Terming Rizvi's remarks as "reckless" and calling him a "joker and bufoon", Owaisi demanded that he tell where Madrassas urged pupils to join terror outfits.

"Mr WaseemRizvi is the biggest joker, the most opportunistic person. He has sold his soul to the RSS and I challenge this buffoon and joker to show one Shia or Sunni or any other Madrassa wherein such teachings are imparted.

PDP MLA Courts Controversy For Equating Militants With Martyrs

New Delhi:Ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA Aijaz Ahmed has courted controversy by calling "Kashmiri militants" "martyrs" and "brothers", strongly pitching for talks with separatists, and cautioning against glorifying killing of terrorists.

"Terrorists, who are from Kashmir are martyrs. Yes, they are our brothers. They are our children," Aijaz, an MLA from fromSouth Kashmir's Wachi, said in Jammu.
He said, "Some of them are minors of the age of 14 who don't even know what they are doing. We should not glorify the killing of terrorists. It is our collective failure."

Mehbooba Mufti Govt Has Failed On All Fronts: Omar

New Delhi: Former chief minister Omar Abdullah has said that Mehbooba Mufti government failed on all fronts and claimed that recent comments by Governor N NVohra certified this failure.

"The government has failed on all the fronts in all the ways and that certificate (of failure) has been given to it by the Governor," the National Conference (NC) leader told reporters in Jammu.

Governor Vohra had on Monday, while delivering the 'The First Mufti Memorial Lecture' to commemorate the Mufti Sayeed Day, said that the entire polity and public services of the state, and the people must work together to protect the student community and youth.

Article 370 In J&K Is Temporary: Indresh Kumar

New Delhi: RSS leader Indresh Kumar has said that the status of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir is "temporary" and asserted that the occupation of Indian land by China and Pakistan was unconstitutional.

India was suffering from Pakistan's sponsored terrorism and secessionism and over 66,000 people had lost their lives since 1972 due to this, he said.

According to a statement issued in Jaipur, the senior RSS leader said that Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir was "temporary". He was in the city to attend 'YuvaSansad 2018'.
