BJP vs SP over Purvanchal e-way, classic example of how BJP usurps others' initiatives, says Akhilesh

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 341-km Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, former state chief minister Akhilesh Yadav mocked the BJP for claiming the “achievements of his government” (2012-17) as their own.

“The ribbon came from Lucknow and the scissors came from Delhi; there is a tussle to take credit for work that was done by the SP,” he posted on Twitter.

On Monday, Akhilesh had tweeted a picture of himself at a ceremony to lay the foundation stone of the expressway in 2016. “A picture from the pages of history: When socialists laid the foundation of a modern future for Purvanchal,” he said.

Indian Railways’ first pod hotel at Mumbai Central likely to open today

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)’s first pod hotel at the Mumbai Central railway station is likely to be inaugurated by Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Danve on Wednesday, November 17. According to a report in Hindustan Times, Danve is expected to inaugurate the pod hotel along with Road Over Bridge between Charni Road and Grant Road railway stations on Wednesday.

The Japanese-style pod hotel will feature a building with several small capsules or pods that offer overnight stay to the passengers. The waiting rooms, located on the first floor of the station, is being used for the purpose and the cheapest pod is likely to cost Rs 999 for 12 hours. The pods will have features such as WiFi, air conditioning, key card access, washrooms and CCTV surveillance apart from other basic amenities.

SC dismisses appeals against appointment of DGP in Punjab

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed appeals filed against the Punjab and Haryana High Court order upholding the appointment of Dinkar Gupta as the Director General of Police, Punjab.

The bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao, Sanjiv Khanna, and BR Gavai dismissed the appeals filed by IPS Officers Siddharth Chattopadhyay and Mohammad Mustafa. Chattopadhyay and Mustafa had challenged the February 7, 2019 order appointing senior IPS officer Gupta as Punjab DGP.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on January 21, 2020, had stayed the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order that had set aside the appointment of Gupta as the Punjab police chief.

Aadi Mahotsav returns to the National Capital with a big bang

To commemorate the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Ltd (TRIFED), Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India is organizing several events. One is the “Aadi Mahotsav”, a mega National Tribal Festival in Dilli Haat, New Delhi from November 16 to 30, 2021. The festival was inaugurated by Shri Sukhram Munda, The Grandson of Bhagwan Birsa Munda at 6.30 pm on November 16, 2021. Shri Arjun Munda, Hon’ble Union Minister for Tribal Affairs presided over the inaugural function. Dr. Subhash Sarkar, Hon’ble Minister of State for Education, Smt. M.C. Mary Kom, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Ramsinh Rathwa, Chairman, TRIFED were the guests of honour for the inaugural function.

Heavy rainfall expected across southern India

Heavy rainfall was expected in Kerala, coastal Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka, and Goa on Monday under the influence of a low-pressure area over the central Andaman Sea, a cyclonic circulation over south interior Karnataka and adjoining north interior Tamil Nadu, and a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian sea. Some of the places will continue receiving rainfall until November 18.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and coastal Andhra Pradesh received rainfall last week under the influence of another low-pressure area. The current low-pressure area will move northwestwards and become a well-marked area over the Andaman Sea and adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal on Monday. The system will then continue moving northwest-wards to the Bay of Bengal and concentrate into a depression by November 17 and south Andhra Pradesh coast by November 18, according to the India Meteorological Department.
