J&K CM Optimistic About All Shades Of Opinion Joining Dialogue Process

New Delhi: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has hoped that people from all shades of opinion in Jammuand Kashmir would join the dialogue process initiated in the state.

In her message on the eve of the 69th Republic Day, she said the appointment of Dineshwar Sharma by the Centre as the interlocutor for the dialogue was a major development to ensure durable peace in the state rather than a temporary measure to calm down tempers as happened in the past.

A dialogue, she said, was the only way by which the culture of violence in the state could be ended.

New Delhi: AIMIM president AsaduddinOwaisi has castigated Prime Minister NarendraModi and BJP for laying "red carpet" for those who targeted school children during the protest against the film "Padmaavat".

"The prime minister, in Davos, rightly said 'I have removed the red tape and we have laid a red carpet (for investors). But the prime minister's party and the prime minister have laid a red carpet for these people who are indulging in violence against small children...who have become a law unto themselves," Owaisi told reporters.

Nitish Kumar Turn Downs Allegations Of Political Volte-Face

New Delhi:Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has rejected opposition RJD's allegation that he had done a political volte-face by walking out of the Grand Alliance and re-joining the BJP-led NDA.

Without naming RJD or any of its leaders, Kumar, who is also the JD(U) national president, asserted that he had not turned his back on any of his government's agenda but found it difficult to work with people who believed in using power for amassing wealth.

"It is often said about me - 'palatgaye' (did a volte- face). I wish to point out that I have never turned my back on any of the agenda set by the government headed by me," he said at a function held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former chief minister Karpoori Thakur in Patna.

Brunei’s Sultan Bolkiah captains aircraft 747-400 to Delhi

New Delhi: Brunei Sultan HassanalBolkiah, the longest-serving monarch after Queen Elizabeth II has piloted his jumbo jet to New Delhi to attend the Indo-Asean Commemorative Summit and India’s Republic Day celebrations. 

The aircraft landed in New Delhi with the Sultan himself in the cockpit, to the surprise of some of those present. 

This is the Sultan’s first trip to India since the Modi government came to power in 2014. While oil-rich Brunei may not make headlines, unlike other SE Asian countries, this feat of the 71-year-old Sultan has put the nation in the spotlight.

1,687 People Changed Religion In MahaIn Nearly 4 Years: RTI

New Delhi: As many as 1,687 people opted for religious conversion in Maharashtra in the last 43 months, with 1,166 Hindus embracing other faiths, including Islam, Christianity and Buddhism, according to reply to an RTI query.

As many as 44 per cent people (749 out of 1,687) chose to embrace Islam between during this period, it added.

The information was provided by the Directorate of Government Printing and Stationery (DGPS), Mumbai in response to a query filed by activist Anil Galgali.
