Government Says Honest Borrowers To Get Easy Loans

New Delhi: Honest borrowers will find it easier to get loans from public sector banks(PSBs) following the reforms being undertaken, according to financial services secretary Rajiv Kumar.

The government this week announced a slew of reforms for the banking sector and said it will infuse an unprecedented Rs 88,139 crore capital in 20 PSBs before March 31 to boost lending and revive growth.

Announcing the reforms, finance minister ArunJaitley had said that stringent norms for disbursal of high value loans have been framed, with strict surveillance on big loan defaulters and mandatory reporting of loans of over Rs 250 crore if there is a breach of any covenant.

Death toll in South Korean hospital fire rises to 41

New Delhi: The death toll from South Korea's hospital fire has risen to 41 Officials said more than 80 people injured in the accident. 

In a press briefing, the head of Miryang city’s fire station, Choi Man-woo, said the fire started in the early morning at the rear of the emergency room on the first floor of Sejong Hospital in the southern city of Miryang,SouthGyeongsang Province . 

He said some victims died on their way to another hospital. Hospital director Song Byeong-cheol said at least 177 patients, most of them elderly were at the hospital and nursing home when the fire broke out.

National Commission For Minorities Pitches For Christian Univ On Lines Of BHU, AMU

New Delhi: The National Commission for Minorities has recommended for setting up a "Christian university" on the pattern of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Aligarh Muslim University(AMU).

"The commission has made recommendation for setting up of a national Christian university. The university will meet the long pending demand of the community," said chairman of the NCM Syed HasanRizvi.

Even as the structure of the university and the norms for recruitment are not clear, the proposal is seen as an outreach by the minority body towards the Christian community.

Congress Snubs BJP Over Inaction Against Violent Padmavat Protests

New Delhi: The Congress has assailed the BJP governments in the Centre and states over their alleged inaction in checking the violent protests by fringe groups against the release of Sanjay LeelaBhansali's "Padmaavat".

Party spokesperson PriyankaChaturvedi also accused the BJP of trying to play politics on the issue, alleging that it had failed to maintain law and order in the states ruled by it.

She accused the BJP governments at the Centre and states of failing to check the violent protests against the film and maintaining silence over the issue.

Railway Minister Suggests Youths To Refrain From Selfies, Stunts Near Rail Tracks

New Delhi: Railway Minister PiyushGoyalhas exhorted youths to refrain from taking selfies on rail tracks, days after a 22-year-old man from Hyderabad suffered grievous injuries during one such attempt.

In his message, Goyal has appealed to people to avoid selfies or stunts near railway tracks.

"In the last few days, I have seen news and videos in which there have been accidents of youth taking selfies or showing stunts near railway tracks. It is very disheartening to know about these accidents.
