Murshidabad bus accident: Death toll rises to 45

New Delhi: In West Bengal, the death toll in the Murshidabad bus accident has risen to 45. The incident occurred yesterday when a state roadways bus fell into the Ghogra canal breaking the railing of a bridge at Balirghat. 

Police said the bus was going from Shikarpur in Nadia district to Malda. According to reports, around 60 people were travelling on the bus at the time of the accident. The toll could go up as the search operation to trace those missing is underway.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced an ex-gratia of 5 lakh rupees each to the next of the kin of those killed. 1 lakh would be given to the seriously injured, and 50,000 for those with minor injuries.

Gadkari Affirms 80% Of Ganga To Be Clean By 2019

New Delhi: Union water resources minister NitinGadkarisaid NarendraModi- government has targeted to make 80% of Ganga clean by 2019 by implementing various schemes under NamamiGange programme.

Gadkarisaid in Patna that 10 cities have been identified, which contribute the most in the pollution of Ganga with Kanpur topping the chart. "We have accordingly asked UP government to ensure zero discharge from sugar factories, paper mills and other industrial units, which lead to high discharge of pollutants in river Ganga," Gadkari said.

Senior RJD Leader Claims Some Bihar NDA Leaders Feeling 'Uneasy', Planning To Join RJD

New Delhi: Senior RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh has asserted that some senior leaders of the ruling NDA in Bihar were feeling "uneasy" in the BJP-led coalition and consideringto join hands with Lalu Prasad's party.

The NDA leaders, he said, included Union Minister UpendraKushwaha and former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.

"All the BJP allies are feeling uneasy in the NDA. Look at Shiv Sena. Similar developments will take place in Bihar. UpendraKushwaha is trying to chart his independent course. JitanManjhi is in talks with senior leaders of our party. Their switching sides is just a matter of formality," Singh told reporters in Patna.

‘6 States Show Upswing In Anaemia Among Women’

New Delhi: Even as the prevalence of anaemia among women in the country decreased marginally by around 2% between 2005-06 and 2015-16, from 55% to 53%, six major states have shown a marked increase in the number of women affected, according to National Family Health Survey (NFHS) IV data.

The rise in the number of anaemic women has been sharpest in Punjab, at 15.5%, followed by Delhi (10%) and Haryana (6.6%). According to the report, in the earlier survey, 38% of Punjab's women were found to be anaemic, with the figure now at 53.5%. Similarly, 44.3% of Delhi's women were recorded as anaemic in 2005-06, and the figure has since risen to 54.3%.

Yashwant Sinha To Launch 'National Forum' Today; TMC MP To Join Him

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader YashwantSinha, a strong critic of the NarendraModi government, will on Tuesday launch 'RashtraManch' (national forum), a body, he said, for political leaders and others "concerned" with the prevailing situation in the country.

Trinamool Congress MP Dinesh Trivedi said he would also join it. There is also speculation about a disgruntled MP of the ruling alliance joining it.

Asked about others who would join him, Sinha said it would be disclosed tomorrow but added that they would join the forum in their individual capacity to air their concern over the current situation.
