Chhattisgarh HC Orders New Committee To Examine Ajit Jogi's Caste Status

New Delhi: The Chhattisgarh High Court has allowedformer chief minister Ajit Jogi’s petition challenging the recommendations of a high-powered panel that had rejected his claim of belonging to a tribal community.

The court also ordered constitution of a new high-powered caste scrutiny committee to examine Jogi's caste status.

On the basis of the earlier committee's observations, Jogi's Scheduled Tribe (ST) caste certificate had been cancelled by the Bilaspur district administration, following which he moved the high court.

Pak SC Gives Verdict In Case Filed 100Years Ago In India

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has given its verdict in a 100-year-old property inheritance case that had started in a court in Rajasthan in 1918.

The property case, which dates back to 1918, was about a dispute over the inheritance of 700 acres (5,600 kanals) of land in Bahawalpur, a region that was regarded as part of the Rajputana States before the partition. Following the partition, the case was transferred to a trial court in Bahawalpur, a city in Pakistan's Punjab province. In 2005, the case was transferred to the apex court.

Xi Jinping Unanimously Elected Deputy To 13th NPC

New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping has been unanimously elected as a deputy to the 13th National People's Congress, the national legislature of China, from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Xi, 64, was nominated by the Central Committee of the ruling Communist Party of China as a candidate for deputy to the 13th NPC, which was put to a vote at the regional congress, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The announcement of Xi's unanimous election at the first session of the 13th regional people's congress was welcomed with a thunderous applause, it said.

Rahul Gandhi To Launch Poll Campaign In Karnataka On Feb 10

New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi will launch his electioneering for the coming assembly polls in Karnataka on February 10 .

Sharing details of the visit, Karnataka PCC chief G Parameshwara said Rahul Gandhi would launch the campaign at Hospet on February 10 by addressing a rally there.

Next day, he will travel to Koppal, Yadgiri, Raichur and Kalburgi by bus, he told reporters in Bengaluru, adding, he would visit parts of the state on February 12 also.

Delhi HC asks for facts from Election Commission behind AAP MLAs' disqualification

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the Election Commission (EC) to state the factual aspects behind its decision to disqualify the 20 AamAadmi Party MLAs for holding the office of profit. The court asked EC to file the affidavit after the poll panel said it wanted to respond to some of the allegations made by the MLAs in their pleas challenging their disqualification. 

The Commission told the court that it would rely upon its opinion given to the President to disqualify the MLAs who were appointed as Parliamentary Secretaries.The court listed the matter for further hearing on the 7th of next month by when the MLAs have to file their responses to the EC affidavit.
