28.4 Lakh E-Way Bills Generated In A Fortnight

New Delhi: In a significant development, a whopping 28.4 lakh e-way bills have been generated by transporters within a fortnight of the beginning of registration.

In the 14-day trial period starting January 16, the day when nationwide e-way bill registrations for taxpayers began, 28.4 lakh e-way bills have been generated.

Under the Goods and Services Tax, inter-state transportation of goods beyond 10 km, with a value of Rs 50,000 and above, will mandatorily require e-way bill from February 1.

Notification issued for Nagaland and Meghalaya Assembly elections

New Delhi: Notification for Assembly elections in Meghalaya and Nagaland were issued on Wednesday. With this, the filing of nominations in both the states began the same day. The two states will go to polls on the 27th of February. 

7th February will be the last date for filing of nominations. Both the states have 60-member assemblies.

Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland AbhijitSinha held a meeting with all political parties in Kohima yesterday. The meeting was called in the wake of several Political Parties announcing their intention not to contest the February 27 Assembly elections. The Chief Electoral Officer, however, clarified that the assembly elections in Nagaland will be held as per the schedule.

Prime accused in Kasganj's youths murder held

New Delhi: The prime accused in the murder of Chandan Gupta in Kasganj was arrested on Wednesday as the strife-torn western Uttar Pradesh town, which saw communal clashes last week, moved towards normalcy despite tension in some pockets, officials said.

The UP government submitted a report on the incidents in Kasganj to the Union Home ministry conveying that the police were probing the violence and whether it was pre-planned, an official said.

"Saleem, the main accused, has been nabbed," IG, Aligarh range, Sanjeev Gupta said.

PM Modi launches first Khelo India School Games

New Delhi: Prime Minister NarendraModi launched the first Khelo India School Games at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The games will continue until 8th of next month. Khelo India is expected to help scout young talent from the schools in various disciplines and groom them as future sports champions. The country’s brightest talent in the under-17 age group will compete in the Games.

The games will be held in 16 disciplines at five venues. The disciplines include Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, Shooting, Swimming, Weightlifting and Wrestling. The games will highlight India’s young sporting talent and showcase India's sports potential. 199 gold medals, 199 silver medals and 275 bronze medals are at stake in these Games.

Will simplify GST structure after coming to power: Rahul

New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that the structure of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) would undergo changes if his party came back to power at the Centre in 2019.

Addressing a programme at St. Edmund's College, Rahul said, "If we come back to power in the Centre, we are going change the structure of GST and simplify it".

"We had proposed a different GST structure. The products that common people use should be out of the tax bracket and there should be only one layer of tax. But, the BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP) told us to mind our own business and said that we were going ahead with our own version of GST", he added.
