To Discourage Dowry, UP Brings Mass Marriage Policy

New Delhi:Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that government has come up with a mass marriage policy for poor girls to discourage the practice of dowry. He said that under the scheme financial assistance of Rs 35,000 will be given at each wedding. 

Chief Minister also said that a rehabilitation centre will come up in Gorakhpur's BRD Hospital campus for the disabled. He said that at least 100 disabled persons each in the state's 80 parliamentary constituencies will be provided motorised tricycles.

Chief Minister was speaking at a programme to distribute tricycles and other assisting devices to 4,115 differently-abled persons in Gorakhpur today. Union Social Justice and Empowerment minister Thawar Chand Gehlot was also present on the occasion.

Indian Mission Pursues Missing Merchant Ship With Nigerian Authorities

New Delhi: The Indian mission in Abuja is in touch with authorities in Nigeria and Benin about a ship carrying 22 Indians believed to have gone missing in the Gulf of Guinea. 

MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in a tweet that a merchant vessel Marine Express owned by Mumbai-based Anglo Eastern shipping company is presumably missing off the coast of Benin in the Gulf of Guinea.

He said the India mission in Nigeria is in touch with the authorities concerned and the situation is being constantly monitored.

CBI Challenges 2005 Delhi HC Order Quashing Charges In Bofors Case

New Delhi: The CBI on Friday filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging a 2005 order of the Delhi High Court quashing all charges against accused persons in the politically sensitive Bofors pay-off case.

News agency PTI quoted sources saying that the CBI has came out with some important documents and evidence to challenge the high court order.

In the May 31, 2005 decision of the high court, all accused, including Europe-based industrialists Hinduja brothers, were discharged from the 64-crore rupees pay-off case.

Bodh Gaya Blast: Two Jamatul Terrorists Held From West Bengal

New Delhi: West Bengal Police has arrested two JamatulMujahiddin Bangladesh (JMB) terrorists involved in a low-intensity blast in the Buddhist pilgrim town Bodh Gaya in Bihar during the Dalai Lama's visit last month. An official of Special Task Forces (STF) of the police said in Kolkata that Paigamber Sheikh, 24, and Jamirul Sheikh, 31, were arrested by STF on Wednesday. 

Sheikh was arrested from his home in Kankuria village in Murshidabad district, while Jamirul, who hails from Ratanpur in the same district, was nabbed from Darjeeling, the official said. Nearly 50 kg ammonium nitrate, materials used to make explosives and a laptop computer were seized from them.

CPM Moves SC Against Electoral Bonds

New Delhi: The CPM has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Centre's decision to introduce electoral bonds and said the move "undermined democracy" and it would "lead to greater political corruption". 

Claiming that the scheme would clean up political funding, the NDA government had announced electoral bonds in the previous budget. It met with stiff resistance from opposition parties and initial reservations from the Election Commission.

CPM general secretary SitaramYechury said CPM was left with no choice but to move the SC.
