Deoband Asks Women Not Let Male Shopkeeper Help Them Wear Bangles

New Delhi: Islamic seminary DarulUloom Deoband has issued a fatwa asking Muslim women to not wear bangles from men at bangle shops. 

They have called the age-old tradition "wrong and a big sin".The fatwa was issued on the query of a resident of Deoband town who asked whether it was correct for Muslim women to let strange men touch their arms in order to help them wear bangles.

In response, the renowned seminary said the women can bring bangles from the shops run by men and wear them on their own. "But if they let the male shopkeeper touch their hands, it is not good and 'haram' (prohibited)," the fatwa read.

Clean Air For Delhi Campaign Launched Jointly With Centre And State

New Delhi: Environment Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Sunday strongly reiterated the Centre’s commitment to mitigation of pollution. Launching the Clean Air for Delhi campaign jointly with Delhi Chief Minister ArvindKejriwal, the Minister expressed hope that the campaign will not be a symbolic 15-day campaign but will be continued throughout the year.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan pointed out the need to use science and technology to combat pollution. He also said the 70 teams that have been constituted have a historic opportunity to get their contribution etched in the fight against pollution. The Minister urged everyone to transform the Clean Air Campaign into a social and national movement.

Truth Should Be Sole Agenda Of Journalism: Smriti Irani

New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani on Saturday said stating the truth should be the sole agenda of journalism and biased news is harmful for the society at large. 

Speaking at a function in New Delhi, the Minister said that news agencies should not have any agenda and stressed on the importance of cross-checking facts. She pointed out that journalism is not an easy job and not many people in this field want to do proper groundwork and research. 

Mrs Irani also highlighted the importance of imparting proper training to young and aspiring journalists.

Russian Passenger Plane Carrying 71 People Crashes Near Moscow

New Delhi: A Russian passenger plane carrying 71 people crashed in the outskirts of Moscow today after taking off from the capital's Domodedovo airport. Russian media report said the Antonov An-148 plane operated by the domestic Saratov Airlines was flying to Orsk, a city in the Urals, and crashed in the Ramensky district outside Moscow. 

Russian news agencies reported 65 passengers and 6 crew were on board. News agencies said witnesses in the village of Argunovo saw a burning plane falling from the sky.

UP CM Says People Believing In Language Of Gun, Should Be Answered In Same Way

New Delhi: Even as controversy grows over encounter killings in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that those who believed in the language of the gun, should be answered in the same manner.

"Everyone should be guaranteed security, but those who want to disturb peace of the society and believe in the gun, should be given the answer in the language of the gun itself. I would tell the administration, that there is no need to worry on this," Adityanath said in Gorakhpur.

Earlier, speaking to reporters in Lucknow on the uproar by the opposition in the state Assembly over various issues during the customary address of Governor Ram Naik, he said, "The opposition leaders'...rude, unparliamentary, indecorous and indecent behaviour...is despicable."
