New Delhi: The UNchildren's agency in a report has singled out Pakistan as the riskiest country for newborns, saying that out of every 1,000 children born in Pakistan, 46 die at birth.

"It's abysmal," said Dr.Ghazna Khalid, a leading obstetrician in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Province. "We don't need front-line medical doctors. We have plenty of them. We need skilled midwives."

The report, with its dismal figures that show South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa as the worst places for a child to be born, is part of UNICEF's new campaign, launched to raise awareness to bring down neonatal mortality rates.

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has once again asked Centre to accord  Special Category Status (SCS)  to  Andhra Pradesh and cited the case of certain states.

He said the SCS is the right of Andhra Pradesh that no one could deny.

Naidu had "welcomed" the special assistance measures (economic package) announced by the Centre in September 2016,  in lieu of the SCS claiming that it was the "best" the southern state could get.

New Delhi: Junior railways minister Manoj Sinha has announced that the new railway station building in Ayodhya would be a replica of the VHP's design for a Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The model for the proposed Ram temple was prepared by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in the late 1980s.

Sinha said his ministry would soon move a proposal for reconstruction of the Ayodhya railway station building as a replica of the proposed Ramjanmabhoomitemple.

The Prime Minister and BJP national president are of the opinion that people coming to Ayodhya from all over the world should get the feeling that this is the birthplace of Lord Ram," he said.

New Delhi: J&K Deputy chief minister Nirmal Kumar Singh has said the ruling PDP-BJP in Jammu and Kashmir 'are on the same pitch' in dealing with separatism and terrorism, for which they have zero tolerance.

"We have given a free hand to police and Army to deal with terrorism and in the Pakistan border. BJP-PDP, the state and the Centre are on the same pitch in dealing with separatism and terrorism. The government's policy is zero tolerance towards terrorism," he said at function Thiruvananthpuram. 

Earlier that was not the attitude, he said, but did not elaborate.
