NewDelhi:Army ChiefGeneral BipinRawat has said that a "planned" influx of people from Bangladesh into the northeast is taking place as part of a proxy warfare by Pakistan with support from China with an aim to keep the area disturbed

Referring to reports of increase in Muslim population in several districts of Assam, the Armychief also talked about BadruddinAjmal-led AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front) in the state, observing that its growth has been "faster" than that of the BJP in the 1980s.

"A planned immigration is taking place because of our western neighbour. They will always try and ensure that this area is taken over, playing the proxy dimension of warfare," Gen Rawat said, talking about influx of people from Bangladesh into the northeast.

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has pitched for  arming teachers to deter future mass shootings as he held a meeting at the White House with survivors of the gun rampage that left 17 people dead at a Florida high school.

Trump also promised "very strong" background checks on gun owners during the poignant "listening session," in which he heard first-hand accounts from bereaved parents and friends, and schoolchildren who narrowly escaped with their own lives.

"A gun-free zone, to a maniac — because they are all cowards — a gun-free zone is 'Let's go in and let's attack," Trump said.

New Delhi: BJP president Amit Shah has asserted that there was public anger against the ruling Congress in Karnataka and asked party workers to make sure that the victory march of NarendraModi enters the South through the state.

"There is anger among people against Congress, and if we cannot convert it into votes it will be difficult to take forward the party. This is an opportunity. There is public anger against Siddaramaiah government. There is no better opportunity to convert this anger into votes," Amit Shah said.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the Centre to withdraw the remaining four companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) from West Bengal's violence-hit Darjeeling area after the 8th of next month. 

A bench, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, considered Attorney General K K Venugopal's submission that the deployment of the central armed forces fell under the Central government's administrative domain. 

The apex court set aside the Calcutta High Court order that had restrained the Centre from withdrawing CAPF from the state's hill regions on the ground that normalcy had not returned.
