Netanyahu Says AI's India-Israel Flights To Overfly Saudi Arabia

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: Saudi Arabia has granted Air Indiapermission to fly over its territory, according to Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

The nod is for the proposed thrice-weekly Delhi-Tel Avivnonstop that is to be launched within a month.

This will be a first for any commercial airliner as Saudi does not recognise Israel and airlines of both countries do not overfly each other's airspace. As a result, Israeli carrier El Al has to take a circuitous route for its Mumbai-Tel Aviv flights which it covers in 7-8 hours. AI's direct route will mean cutting the flying time between Delhi and Israel by at least 2-3 hours. Reduced fuel burn will result in lower fares.

Congress Snubs Govt For ‘Excessive Vilification’ Of Chidambaram

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: Congress has dismissed the Modi government’s allegation that former finance minister P Chidambaram benefited absconder NiravModithrough the “80:20 gold scheme” as “excessive vilification” of the opposition leader through lies.

While Congress called the claims against Chidambaram an attempt to avoid a debate in Parliament on the PNB scam, its LokSabha group accused the government of changing the subject of the debate sought by the opposition from present bank frauds to bank irregularities since Independence.

Questioning the allegations of law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad that the gold scheme was used by Chidambaram to benefit Nirav, Congress spokesman Anand Sharma said, “It is absurd to suggest that any paper could have been signed on May 16, 2014 (the day of the LokSabha results). Let the minister produce those file notings.”

Yogi Adityanath Thanks Muslim Clerics For Shifting Namaz Timings During Holi

in DNDQuick

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has thanked Muslim clerics for shifting the timing of 'namaz' prayers in their attempt to avoid any clash with Holirevellers.

"I want to thank the Muslim clerics for changing the time of 'JummaNamaz' for Holi. Jummah (Friday noon prayer) comes 52 times in a year and Holi comes once. They (clerics) decided to reschedule the namaz after Holi. The festival went off peacefully," he said while addressing public meetings ahead of the Gorakhpur bypoll.

"People were apprehensive as Holi and Jummah were on the same day, but Hindu brothers celebrated Holi peacefully. Riots had taken place in earlier years when people used to come out of mosques after offering prayers and Hindus used to play Holi, but this time round everything went off peacefully," the chief minister said.
