Situation In Sri Lanka’s Violence-hit Kandy District Improves

New Delhi: In Sri Lanka, the situation in the violence-affected Kandy district has improved as no untoward incident has been reported since Wednesday night.

The curfew was relaxed during daytime but will continue during the night.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority said, the situation was fast returning to normal and tourists could resume their travel plans to Kandy.

Earlier several shops and establishments were burnt in violence targeted at minority Muslim community.

Three people have died in the violence that began on Sunday and which led to an emergency in the country.

Two Percent DA For Central Govt Employees Announced

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved two per cent Dearness Allowance (DA) to Central government employees. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister NarendraModi in New Delhi today. The Cabinet gave its nod to release an additional installment of DA to central government employees and Dearness Relief to pensioners with effect from 1st of January this year to compensate for price rise.

The decision will benefit about over 48 lakh Central Government employees and over 61 lakh pensioners. The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both DA and Dearness Relief would be over 6 thousand 77 crore rupees per annum.

Jaitley Shifts Base, To Enter RS This Time From UP

New Delhi: The BJP has decided to field Finance Minister ArunJaitley from Uttar Pradesh, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad from Bihar and Health Minister JP Nadda from Himachal Pradesh for the ensuing RajyaSabha election. Besides, Petroleum Minister DharmendraPradhan and Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot will be the party candidates from Madhya Pradesh.

Minister of State for Chemicals and FertilisersMansukhbhaiMandaviya and Minister of State for Agriculture PurushottamRupala will be the party candidate from Gujarat for the RajyaSabha elections. Polling for 59 RajyaSabha seat is scheduled on 23rd of this month.

BJP Accuses UPA Government Of Favouring Gitanjali Jewellers

New Delhi: The BJP on Wednesday accused the previous Congress led UPA government of opening all doors to favour some companies which were prohibited from participating in the 80:20 Gold scheme.

The party said, just a day before the announcement of the LokSabha poll results in 2014, the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram had announced a new policy in which designated few companies, including Gitanjalijewellers, were allowed gold imports.

Briefing reporters at party headquarters in New Delhi, senior BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said certain trading houses were allowed to import gold up to 2,000 kg from any port of India without any proper control or verification.

Apex Court Gives NEET Examinees Relief From Aadhar Registration For This Year

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the CBSE not to make Aadhaar number mandatory for enrollment of students appearing in NEET 2018 and all other India examinations. A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DipakMisra directed the CBSE to upload the information on their website.

Earlier in the day, UIDAI had told the apex court that CBSE has not been given any authority in this regard. The UIDAI's remarks came on a plea challenging the decision of CBSE in the matter.
