There Should Be More Women In Armed Forces: Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi: There should be more women in the armed forces, according to the Defence Minister NirmalaSitharaman. 

Speaking at an event organised by women officers of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), Sitharaman called upon them to grab every opportunity coming their way saying "blanket rejection" of males or females should be completely avoided.

"I think there should be more women in the armed forces," she said.

New Delhi: Union minister of state for civil aviation, JayantSinha, has said that the Air India disinvestment plan is on track and the government will be adhering to all timelines in this case.

“Our timelines are very clear and our goal is to award it (Air India) by the end of June and to have the whole transaction closed and done and the transfer of airline to the private sector by the end of this calendar year. Those are the DIPAM (Department of Investment and Public Asset Management) timelines that have been established and we are on track,” the minister said on the sidelines of the WINGS INDIA 2018 in Hyderabad.

India Set To Achieve 20GW Solar Energy Capacities This Fiscal Itself: Minister

New Delhi: India is close to achieving 20 GW grid connected installed solar power generation capacity this fiscal itself with 19.58GW already in hand till February end, according to Power and new & renewable energy minister R K Singh.

"As on February 28, 2018, a grid connected solar capacity of 19.58 GW has been installed and the government is very close to achieving 20GW in 2017-18 itself of the the target set initially," Singh said in a written reply to LokSabha.

The government had revised the target of grid connected solar energy capacitiesfrom 20GW to 100GW by 2022.

President Kovind Exhorts Society To Unite To Eradicate Human Trafficking

New Delhi: President Ram NathKovind hasasserted human trafficking is a crime against humanity and the society must unite for its eradication.

People should also be encouraged to urge the survivors of human trafficking into the mainstream of society and help them overcome their problems, Kovind said after meeting the survivorsof human trafficking on the occasion of International Women's Day at the RashtrapatiBhavan.  

"We need to create an appropriate eco-system for the survivors," he said.

"We are in that period of communication revolution in which social evils are discussed openly. People are discussing the social evils among themselves which is eventually leading to solutions of these problems," the president said.

After E-Visa Scheme, Govt Implements Online Visa Services To Foreigners

New Delhi: A scheme to provide various visa services to foreign nationals online is underway after the execution of the highly successful e-Visa scheme, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

This was conveyed at a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singhwherein he reviewed the e-Visa scheme and the various aspects of the Foreign Contribution Regulations Act (FCRA).

Singh said the e-Visa and FCRA schemes were being implemented by the foreigners division of the home ministry with a view to improve the efficiency and transparency of various services being provided to Indian and foreign nationals.
