Bihar Celebrates 106th Foundation Day Today

New Delhi: Bihar celebrates its 106th foundation day on Thursday. It was on this day in 1912 that the state was carved out of United Bengal. A number of programmes are being organised throughout the state to mark the occasion.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate three-day Bihar Diwas celebrations in Patna today. The theme for this year's Bihar Diwas celebrations is "Centenary of Champaran Satyagraha and Elimination of Dowry and Child Marriage."

SC Asks Jaypee Associates To Deposit Another Rs 200 Cr By 10th May

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked Jaiprakash Associate Limited (JAL), the parent company of Jaypee Infratech, to deposit another 200 crore rupees by 10th May, for refunding the principal amount to those homebuyers, who are opting out of the housing projects of the firm. 

A bench, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, asked the real-estate major to deposit 100 crores by the 6th of next month, and another 100 crores by 10th May. The bench also asked JAL to submit a project-wise chart of home buyers seeking refunds so that amount can be dispersed. 

It also said, no notice for default in payment of EMIs should be sent by the real-estate firm to the home buyers who have opted for refund. The court posted the matter for the 16th of next month to see whether its order has been complied with.

Delhi HC To Hear Appeal Against Acquittal Of A Raja In 2G Case

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court will on Wednesday hear an appeal filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the acquittal of former telecom minister A. Raja and others in the 2G spectrum case.

The probe agency on Tuesday filed the appeal in the high court after a special CBI court in a shocking judgment in December last year acquitted all the 19 accused, including A. Raja, in the Rs 30,984 crore scam.

The CBI had back then said it would file a petition challenging the trial court order.

Air India Didn't Take Loan For VVIP Planes: Centre

New Delhi: National flag carrier airline Air India sought a loan of USD 180 million from Bank of Baroda for modification of two aircraft for VVIPs, but did not take it, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said on Tuesday.

In a reply to All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham (AIADMK) MP A.K. Selvaraj's question, Sinha said: "The short-term loan proposed by the airline was not taken as the Government of India released the required funds/amounts from National Small Savings Funds (NSSF) account for the payment towards both procurement and modification of two B777-300ER aircraft."

India Post Releases Special Cover On Stephen Hawking

New Delhi: India Post paid tribute to theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking by issuing a special cover on him.

Chief Post Master General of Maharashtra and Goa Circle H C Agrawal and Director of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Dr Sandip Trivedi jointly issued the special cover at an event held in the GPO Mumbai.

Agrawal said that the postal department is paying tribute to the legendary scientist by releasing the special cover in all its 22 Circles. Hawking died at the age of 76 on March 14 in his home in Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
